Former Moose Have Big Night, Roy yells

He's already proving to everyone that the team who drafted him made the correct choice in keeping him in the National Hockey League. First overall pick Nathan MacKinnon made his NHL debut last night when his team, the Colorado Avalanche, took on the Anaheim Ducks. It was a big night for the rookie. He fought with Ducks' player Ben Lovejoy and both received a fighting minor penalty at the mid point of the second period. He than made a nice pass to linemate Jamie McGinn to make the score 4-0 for the Avs. That was MacKinnon's first career NHL point. The two paired up again in the 3rd period to make it 5-0 with Nate getting the first assist on McGinn's second goal of the game.

Nathan finished with 2 assists, 1 shot, +1 rating and 2 penalty minutes in 15 and a half minutes played. He was given third star honors in Colorado's 6-1 win over Anaheim.

It wasn't just a good night for one former Halifax Mooseheads player as Alex Tanguay started his 14th NHL season on Wednesday night. Tanguay assisted on 3 of the goals by the Avalanche, one of which was the second assist on McGinn's first goal. Nice Herd connection on that goal. Jean-Sebastien Giguere did not play but he suited up as the backup.

Former QMJHL coach of the Quebec Remparts had an interesting NHL coaching debut. Before the Ducks scored, Lovejoy once again went after Nathan and Patrick Roy was not very happy. He was so unhappy that he started yelling at the players and Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. Roy also went as far as shoving the glass partition that is between the two benches in anger. He might get more then a game misconduct as it happened at the very end of the game.
