NHL Combine

SIGNED
The top three prospects in this year's NHL draft have signed their first pro endorsement deal. Nathan MacKinnon, Seth Jones and Jonathan Drouin have all signed deals with CCM/Reebok Hockey today and they've been feeling the love from other members.

CABBIE
Nate and Seth were interviewed this afternoon by Cabbie Richards and it looks like both of the boys were wearing CCM polos shortly after being signed to an endorsement deal. They look pretty good if I do say so myself.

INTERVIEWS
For the last couple of days, all the prospects have been going through the interview process. Scouts and management from individual NHL teams meet with a player and discuss their play and other things sometimes things like what's your favourite color or food. This process is good for the teams to figure out who the player is and if they would be a good fit with the team. Seth Jones said that he went had 17 interviews during the last two days.

FITNESS
The fitness training part of the combine begins tomorrow and will continue on Saturday. Each player also goes through a medical. Jones, MacKinnon and Drouin may not participate in the fitness portion according to their managers. After the long season I guess there's worry that it would give them a disadvantage and not show teams how good they actually are. I personally think they should still do it and prove to teams that even after playing around 90 games doesn't slow them down. For full story click here.

MOOSEHEADS DAY
Today is the day we've been waiting for all year. Your Halifax Mooseheads are back home after winning the Memorial Cup on Sunday and the city has decided that they are dedicating today to the team. There will be a short parade starting at noon with it ending in Grand Parade Square. After the official event there will be an autograph session. Part of Carmichael Street will be closed between 11 and 3 and Metro Transit is having free bus and ferry rides during this time. Mike Savage explained to Metro Halifax why the city decided to have the pararde “It’s not every day a city gets to push out its chest and say, ‘We’re No. 1,’ We have the best junior team in the CHL and that’s worth coming out to celebrate.” With regards to the bad timing the Mayor told Metro “We hope maybe some employers will be a little flexible with some of their employees so they can go home and get their kids from school and bring them down.”

NHL COMBINE
Nathan MacKinnon, Zach Fucale and Jonathan Drouin are all leaving tonight to head to Toronto for the NHL combine. This is the reason why the Parade is today at the time that it is becuase the whole team deserved to be there. The NHL pushed the flights back so the boys could enjoy this with the city and their team. Look back here for the results during the week. Good luck Nate, Jo and Zach.

AIRPORT
Last night, the Moose touchdown at the Halifax International Airport and were greeted by a huge crowd of fans who braved the rain to welcome home their favourite team. Co-captain Trey Lewis was the first off the plane followed closely by coach Dom Ducharme. Trey was holding the Memorial Cup when he came off the plane. The team arrived on a charter flight at the ESSO building shortly after 5pm yesterday.

OVERAGERS
Sunday's championship game was the last junior game for Stephen MacAulay, Konrad Abeltshauser and Stefan Fournier. MacAulay and Abeltshauser were both drafted in 2010 by the St Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks respectively. I hope they have proven themselves this year and get a NHL contract for the upcoming season. No matter what happens I wish them luck in their futures.

Introducing the Charlottetown Islanders

The PEI Rocket are now officially no more. In a press conference this morning that started at 10am, the new owners were revealed and the team officially announced the new name as well as the new logo and colors.

The franchise already announced their new team name a couple months but then the Q tried to move the team to Quebec so it was on the rocks for a bit. The PEI Rocket are now officially the Charlottetown Islanders. This is a much better name than what most people thought it was going to be after the Islander nickname was announced. PEI Islanders does not make sense. As with a new name there must be a new logo. The logo is a hoop with Charlottetown written in it, the bridge in the middle and Islanders written in front.

The team also announced the ownership group which includes 15 people. Some of the new ownership include Peter MacDonald of MacDonald Automotive Group, Jason Hunter, Ron MacAulay, Ron Murray and Steve Gauthier of Markan Hardwood, and Cyril, Jeff and Craig Chapman of Chapman Brothers Construction.

The jerseys will not be revealed until June 15 at a team sponsored event however people can most likely catch glimpses of the new unis during the QMJHL draft on June 8.

The team still needs to fix the media outlets but you can follow the Islanders now at @IslandersHKY and their website is now www.charlottetownislanders.com

R.I.P. Prince Edward Island Rocket and hello to the Charlottetown Islanders. Welcome to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League see you in September.

WE ARE CHAMPIONS

Your Halifax Mooseheads are champions once again. The Mooseheads won the President's Cup earlier in the month to book their ticket to the Memorial Cup as QMJHL Champions. They have now finished their unbelievable season with a Memorial Cup trophy after beating the WHL champions Portland Winterhawks 6-4.

The Winterhawks let in 3 goals in the first period and wasn't able to dig themselves out of the hole although they came very close. After outshooting the home team 5-0 early in the period, Mac Carruth let in a powerplay goal by Konrad Abeltshauser. Both players played in their last junior hockey game. In the second however, the Hawks got two goals to scare the Halifax faithful back at home and at the Credit Union Centre. It could've been tied at threes if Ty Rattie didn't glove the puck into the net. In the last 20 minutes, there was as many goals in that period as there was in the first two periods with Nathan MacKinnon scoring a hat trick to put it away with an empty net. Portland had a lot of pressure against Zach Fucale and the defense. It was almost the same score as the first game between these two teams but the Herd couldn't get the seventh but they also had a goal taken back.

Stephen MacAulay made history tonight after he won his second Memorial Cup. No one has ever gone to 4 league finals, won three and won two national championships. I'm sure he wasn't thinking of the fact that he made history. He assisted on Nate's third goal.

The all-star team was made up of both teams players.
Goalie - Zach Fucale
Defense - Derrick Pouliot and Konrad Abeltshauser
Forwards - Nathan MacKinnon, Marty Frk and Ty Rattie

Tournament awards were as follows:
MVP - Nathan MacKinnon
Top Scorer - Nathan MacKinnon
Most Sportsmanlike - Bo Horvat
Most Outstanding Goalie - Andrey Makarov

Memorial Cup Championship Game

After 10 more days of hockey, the junior hockey season will come to end tonight as the Halifax Mooseheads take on the Portland Winterhawks at 8:00pm Atlantic time. There are many stories for this game. The biggest one being the biggest battle so far of the MacKinnon/Drouin vs. Jones battle for top pick in the NHL draft this year. Seth Jones is ranked number 1, with Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin following behind at #2 and #3 respectively.

Another story is that of Stephen MacAulay trying to win his second Memorial Cup in three years. This time with a different team and a different dedication if they win. If the Mooseheads win, Stephen is dedicating the win to his mom.

Halifax will be coming off a four day layoff just like in between series of the QMJHL playoffs.

ROY
Today, it was announced by the Colorado Avalanche that they have made former franchise goalie Patrick Roy their head coach.

Patrick was head coach of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. After playing 10 years in Montreal with the Canadiens, Roy was traded to the Avalanche during the 1995-96 season. He spent 8 years in Denver playing 478 games as their number one goalie. While in Denver, he won two Stanley Cups in 1996 and 2001 while also being named to the NHL All-Star Game in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Congratulations to Patrick we won't miss you in the Q.

THROWER
Dalton Thrower has been suspended for the rest of the Memorial Cup tournament after hitting Taylor Leier in last night's final round robin game. Leier has been said to have a concussion. So Saskatoon will have to play the rest of their season with a man down. They will most likely put one of their healthy scratches in the game when they take on the London Knights at 9pm Atlantic time.

GRAND PARADE
Sunday's Memorial Cup Championship Game will be broadcasted on Sportsnet, just like the rest of the tournament, at 8:00pm Atlantic time. The HRM announced that they will once again show a Moosehead game on the big screen in Grand Parade Square. It will be the fourth time this month that fans can watch one of Halifax's games on the big screen.

Notes...
  • Can Saskatoon repeat what Shawinigan did last year? We'll have to wait and see.
  • The winner of this game will go on to play the Portland Winterhawks.
  • London believes they are going to be the ones coming out on top of this game.

Playoff round

Because two teams finished 2-1 and the other two teams finished 1-2, there will be a tiebreaker game for the third straight year. Saskatoon will look to do what Shawinigan did last year; win the tie breaker game and then go on to win the Championship on home ice.

The final standings after the round robin games looks like this:
Halifax 2W 1L 18GF 11GA
Portland 2W 1L 14GF 12GA
London 1W 2L 8GF 17GA
Saskatoon 1W 2L 9GF 9GA

With Portland beating Saskatoon last night, Halifax goes straight to the final because the Mooseheads defeated the Winterhawks in the round robin. Saskatoon will be the away team in the tie breaker game against the London Knights. The winner of that game will go on to play Portland in the semifinal game.

Tonight is the tiebreaker game. Puck drops at 9:00pm/AT
Semifinal game is Saturday [EDIT: actually on Friday]. Puck drops at 9:00pm/AT
Championship final game is Sunday night. Puck drops at 8:00pm/AT

It would've been a different story had the Blades won last night but thank goodness they didn't. Here's how the playoff round would have been if the host team had won.
Saskatoon and Halifax would have 2-1-0 records and since the Blades beat the Herd, the hosts would be going straight to Sunday's final. Halifax would have to play in the semifinal game against the winner of the Hawks/Knights tiebreaker game.

  • MacAulay and Fournier want to show they deserve to be in the big leagues.
  • CHL.ca has a preview of tonight's game.

Memorial Cup update

All four teams in the Memorial Cup Championship are now 1-1-0. This happened after Portland beat the London Knights for their first win of the tournament. It was London's first loss after they beat Saskatoon on Friday. Because of this two teams will end 2-1 and the other two will be 1-2 after three round robin games. Since there won't be two tie breaker games, if Halifax wins tonight against London and Portland beats Saskatoon tomorrow night, the Mooseheads will go straight to the finals and than there would be a tiebreaker game between Saskatoon and London to determine who will be third. If Saskatoon wins and the Moose still win tonight than the host Blades will go straight to the final and Halifax will have to play in the Semifinal game.

In other news....
  • Halifax had a day off yesterday and becuase it was nice in Saskatoon they went to the batting cages and to a mini putt course.
  • On Sunday, the Summerside Western Capitals lost in the RBC Championship game on home ice against the Brooks Bandits. It was Brooks first national championship. The Bandits are from Alberta.

Memorial Cup update

The Herd have been busy already at the 2013 Memorial Cup in Saskatoon. They left on a charter flight just before noon Atlantic time yesterday to head to the host city. The team landed about 3pm and were greeted by media on the tarmac. The other two teams left their respective cities a little before Halifax landed considering they are closer.

Last night was the 'Meet the Coaches' media event. Before the four coaches took questions, they took a picture with the ultimate prize; the Memorial Cup. None of them touched it of course.

Zach Fucale, goalie for your Halifax Mooseheads was named yesterday morning as CHL Goalie of the Week with a 2-1 record last week and a goals against average of 2.35. He was also named Goalie of the Week after the first week of April. Ty Rattie of the Portland Winterhawks was named CHL Player of the Week.

Good luck to the Halifax Mooseheads. First game is Saturday against Portland.

Metro Halifax's recap: The inevitable was finally realized on Friday night.

The Canadian Press' recap: The Halifax Mooseheads are going to Saskatoon.

QMJHL.ca's recap: The Halifax Mooseheads recorded three unanswered first period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and capture their first ever Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship in front of a sellout crowd of 10,595 ecstatic fans at the Metro Centre in Halifax.

CBCNews' recap: After a near sweep of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League finals, the Halifax Mooseheads made franchise history, winning the President Cup.

MISSING IN ACTION: Liam Alcalde (healthy), Brennan Bailey (healthy), Jonathan Lacroix-Courville (healthy), Trey Lewis (suspended), Max Lindsay (healthy) and Brian Lovell (healthy) did not play for the Mooseheads. Gabriel Verpaelst (suspended) and Alec Jon Banville (suspended, 2 games) did not play for Baie-Comeau.

MACAULAY: Stephen MacAulay played in his 75th and last junior playoff game last night. He scored 2 goals and had one penalty in the game. The win gave him his 3rd straight President's Cup victory. He will be looking for his second Memorial Cup when the Mooseheads start the tournament a week from today in Saskatoon.

DROUIN: Jonathan Drouin scored the second goal of Game 5. He was named Playoff MVP after the game while leading the Q in points with 35 in seventeen games.

MACKINNON: Nathan MacKinnon ended the night with a goal and an assist, a +2 rating and a penalty. He was 24 for 36 at the faceoff dot. Nate finished the playoffs with 33 points, tied for second in the league.

CADORETTE: Philippe Cadorette had a much better showing tonight only allowing 4 goals on 24 shots.

OVERAGERS: Three 20 year olds were on this year's championship team; Stephen MacAulay, Stefan Fournier and Konrad Abeltshauser. Fournier had a goal, a +1 rating and a penalty in his last Q league game. MacAulay scored twice, had a +1 rating and a interference penalty while Abeltshauser had 2 assists and a +2 rating.

THIRD: In the third period, there was 2 goals by the Moosheads and no penalties. It was the first time I believe that there has been no penalties in the last frame in a game that the Herd have participated in.

RECORD: Halifax was unable to beat the record for consecutive wins to start a playoff season when they lost Game 3 in Baie-Comeau to end their streak at 14 games (Hull went 15-0 in 1986). With a 16-1 record in the playoffs, the Moose finish the season with a 74-7-3-1 record in important games.

50/50: Last night's fifty-fifty winner won $39,862

Attendance: 10,595

HALIFAX - YOUR HALIFAX MOOSEHEADS ARE 2013 QMJHL PRESIDENT'S CUP CHAMPIONS. The team in red and green have punched their ticket to the Memorial Cup after winning the Q league championship. It is the fourth straight year that the President's Cup has been won by a team from the Maritimes. It was very fitting that Stephen MacAulay scored the first goal in his last Q game and he also scored in the empty net. It wasn't as exciting of a game as the rest of the series with barely any rough stuff, the refs probably learned from the previous games. Stefan Fournier and Jonathan Drouin scored in the first period to give the home team a 3-0 lead and they never looked back. Zach Fucale came up big once again with the Drakkar shooting over 30 pucks at net.

SERIES
Halifax leads the best-of-seven series 3-1

PREVIEW - The Halifax Mooseheads will have a chance to win the QMJHL championship title on home ice in front of a sellout crowd.

After scaring us fans at the Grand Parade going down 2-0 early in the second period, the Herd came back big to come home up 3-1 in their series against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. For the second game in a row, Halifax seemed to be affected by the loud Drakkar crowd allowing the first two goals of the game. Petr Straka scored at the 1:30 mark of the middle frame to put his team ahead 2-0. Jonathan Drouin and Marty Frk scored 15 seconds apart to tie the game up for Halifax. Carl Gelinas would put the home team up 3-2 at the 8:41 mark. Frk scored his second of the game to tie it again this time at 3 and the Mooseheads wouldn't look back from there scoring another 3 goals to end the period up 6-3.

There was once again some rough stuff close to the end of the game with Alec Jon Banville charging into Zach Fucale and the Charles Poulin knocking into Fucale while in the corner. Trey Lewis came to his goalie's rescue and fought tow guys at once, receiving an aggressor penalty and an automatic suspension. The rest of the guys on ice decided to fight too with each other, the goalies stayed out of the fighting this time though.

Fucale had to stop the most shots in this playoffs in Game 4 as Baie-Comeau led the pucks to the net 43-27.

NOT PLAYING - Lovell, Bailey, Alcalde, Lindsay and Lacroix-Courville will probably all be healthy scratches again tonight and Trey Lewis was suspended for 1 game. Banville and Verpaelst were both suspended too.

Media'Caps: Mooseheads 7, Drakkar 4

My recap: A very exciting second period leads to another Mooseheads win to put them one win away from a berth in the Memorial Cup.

The Canadian Press' recap: Martin Frk had two goals and three assists as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 7-4 on Wednesday to take 3-1 lead in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final.

Metro Halifax's recap: It was more than just another goal for Nathan MacKinnon for so many reasons.

The Chronicle Herald's recap: The Halifax Mooseheads are one win away from claiming their first-ever QMJHL title.

MISSING IN ACTION: Brian Lovell, Max Lindsay, Liam Alcalde, Brennan Bailey and Jonathan Lacroix-Courville were all healthy scratches for Halifax, while Alexandre Ranger of Baie-Comeau didn't play because of suspension.

MACKINNON: Nathan MacKinnon played okay. Just like in Game 3, he turned the puck over a couple times though Fucale was there to bail him out last night. After getting off the ice someone threw a wattle bottle at his back and than a beer can at his chest. He also scored his first goal of the series which ended up being the game winner.

DROUIN: After getting hit on Tuesday night with a knee on knee, Jonathan Drouin came back quite strong for Game 4. He started the comeback with the first Mooseheads goal to cut the Drakkar's lead to one.

CADORETTE: Philippe Cadorette got pulled for the second time in the series after allowing Halifax's fifth goal in the second period. He played 33:54 minutes in net for Baie-Comeau.

FRK: Marty Frk had two goals and three assists to lead both teams in points during the game. He was the only one to score more than one goal. This again shows the depth of his team.

HOME: Halifax will have a chance to win the President's Cup at home now after Baie-Comeau forced a game 5 on Tuesday and the Herd won last night. I was hoping that we could win the cup at home but it would've been nice to get the record.

SIX: The Halifax Mooseheads scored six goals in the middle frame last night. During that 20 minutes they only shot 7 pucks to the net.

TICKETS: Tickets for Game 5 at the Halifax Metro Centre don't go on sale until 10 this morning but there were already people lining up at the MC for them after the second period had finished.

SCORES
Knights 4 - 6 Colts    (BAR leads 3-1)

BAIE-COMEAU - A very exciting second period leads to another Mooseheads win to put them one win away from a berth in the Memorial Cup. For the second straight game the Drakkar led 2-0, this time early into the second. Jonathan Drouin scored the first goal to get Halifax rolling. That was the first of five goals in a span of 3:53, with Drouin plus 3 others being from the Herd. This was part of a period where the away team scored 6 goals on 7 shots. After the fifth one, Baie-Comeau changed their goaltender. There was more rough stuff towards the end of the game with a bunch coming at 19:36 of the third period. This happened after Alec Job Banville charged right into Zach Fucale. Austyn Hardie rushed to his goalie's defense which started a line brawl. A couple of different fights broke out including one with Trey Lewis against TWO Drakkar players.

SERIES
Halifax leads the best-of-seven series 2-1

PREVIEW - Halifax received it's first loss of the playoffs and first regulation defeat since February 8.

So much for Game 2 being the last home game of the season. Baie-Comeau came out very defensively in front of their home crowd en route to a 3-1 win. It was the lowest scoring and least penalized game of the series. Two Moosehead players got hurt but were able to get back into the game after a short rest. Brent Andrews and Jonathan Drouin both got hurt. Big Jo got hit by Alexandre Ranger with a knee on knee. He spent the last 14 of the second period in the dressing room and came back for a couple shifts in the third.

Baie-Comeau scored the first goal to lead after 40 minutes. There was three goals in the last 20 minutes. The two teams traded goals in the third. The Drakkar's last goal was an empty net goal. There was only 6 powerplays during the whole game.

Halifax was outshot for the second straight game by almost an identical shot total with Baie-Comeau leading 30-28 in pucks to the net.

NOT PLAYING - Lovell, Bailey, Alcalde, Lindsay and Lacroix-Courville will probably all be healthy scratches again tonight. Alexandre Ranger was suspended for a game for the hit on Jonathan Drouin.

NEXT GAME
The Drakkar and Mooseheads will play Game 5 on Friday at the Metro Centre at 7pm.

Media'Caps: Mooseheads 1, Drakkar 3

My recap: The Baie-Comeau Drakkar were the team to finally end Halifax's improbable winning streak.

The Chronicle Herald's recap: The Baie-Comeau Drakkar proved they are not about to give up.

Metro Halifax's recap: As far as Stephen MacAulay’s concerned, the Halifax Mooseheads have only one option after suffering their first defeat of the postseason on Tuesday night.

The Canadian Press' recap: The Baie-Comeau Drakkar ended Halifax's dominant streak and got back into the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final.

DROUIN: Jonathan Drouin was incognito for the second half of the second period in last night's game after taking a knee on knee hit from Alexandre Ranger. Drouin did come back in the third period but didn't play very much. After the hit, he stayed on the ice for a minute than skated on his accord to the bench and limped to the dressing room obviously in a lot of pain.

GELINAS: Carl Gelinas of the Drakkar had the only multi-point night of the game in the low scoring affair. Of course his second point was the empty net goal so does it really count? With point totals it does but still.

FUCALE: Zach Fucale stopped 27 shots last night in the loss. It was the same amount he had to make in the 4-3 win on Saturday.

ABELTSHAUSER: Konrad Abeltshauser was named CHL Player of the Week earlier on Tuesday. He kept up with that during the game.

BIG SCREEN: Last night's game was shown to the fans of Halifax on the big screen in Grand Parade Square. The city will once again be putting up the big screen for Game 4 tonight.

RECORD: The Hull Olympiques have kept a hold of their record set back in 1986. Hull holds the record for longest winning streak to start a playoffs after going 15-0 in the 1986 QMJHL playoffs. When they did it, teams had to win three best of nine series'. The Mooseheads winning streak ended at 14 games after last night.

FIVE: For the first time in this year's playoffs, Halifax will need to play a game five. Last night's loss might actually be a blessing in disguise. It will teach the Moose how to handle tough losses which they may (hopefully not though) encounter if they make it to the Memorial Cup.

SCORES
Portland 3 - 1 Edmonton    (POR leads 2-1)

It was also the first time in the playoffs that the Moose have scored less than 2 goals. They have been averaging more than 5 goals a game.

SERIES
Halifax leads the best-of-seven series 2-0

PREVIEW - Only two more wins.

In what was most likely the last home game of the season, was not a disappointment for the fans who watched at home and the Metro Centre. There was plenty of fighting, nice goals, and intense moments. Two Mooseheads, Fournier and , were both kicked out of the game after instigating fights with Baie-Comeau players. With 90 seconds left, Halifax was leading 4-1 and the Drakkar pulled their goalie. Carl Gelinas and Petr Starka scored in the last 93 seconds to close the gap to one but it was too late for the away team. Straka's goal was scored with 2 seconds left.

Baie-Comeau outshot Halifax in Game 2 31-27 with the third period being the difference.

Truro and Summerside to continue playing

The Truro Bearcats and Summeside Western Capitals keep playing each other as both of their seasons continued last night. The two teams battled it out earlier in April for the Kent Cup, the Maritime Junior A Hockey League Chamionship trophy. Summerside won the Kent Cup and a berth in the Fred Page Cup for the Eastern Regional playoffs. Despite being the runner up, Truro had an automatic berth in the Fred Page Cup no matter how they did as they were selected to be hosts. Joining Truro and Summerside were the Cornwall Colts of the Central Canada Hockey League and the Langueuil College Francais of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League. The Bearcats ended the round robin with a 3-0 record and first place while Summerside was 2-1 and second. The Bearcats advanced right to the finals with Summerside went to the semis and won to set up a rematch of the MHL championship. Truro won in double overtime 3-2.

The Western Capitals host the national championships, the Royal Bank Cup, starting May 11. The Maritime teams will be joined in the Royal Bank Cup by the Surrey Eagles, Brooks Bandits and Minnesota Wilderness.

Media'Caps: Drakkar 3, Mooseheads 4

My recap: Mooseheads have still not lost in regulation since February 8th.

The Chronicle Herald's recap: The Halifax Mooseheads are halfway there.

Metro Halifax's recap: Konrad Abeltshauser will be a happy man if Saturday night happens to be his last home game as a Halifax Moosehead.

The Canadian Press' recap: Make it 14 in a row for the Halifax Mooseheads.

MACAULAY: Stephen MacAulay scored the first goal of the game less than 12 minutes in to the game. He also recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick.

BANVILLE: I do not know how the Q has not suspended Alec Jon Banville yet. He has been on the score sheet but in the bad part of it. He had 9 minutes of penalties which was tied for a team high but not game high. Alec was kicked out of the game.

FOURNIER: Stefan Fournier scored a his league leading 15th playoff goal while also getting a game high 13 minutes in penalties. He was also shown the door during the game after his fight at 13:29 in the third.

CROWD: It'll be interesting to see how the Mooseheads handle the Baie-Comeau crowd. Before Game 2 the Drakkar posted on their Twitter page that they have the loudest fans; that one fan in BAC equals 4 fans in Halifax when it comes to noise. The last two games have had full houses.

LAST GAME: Was last night's game the last home show of the season? Well we'll have to see if Baie-Comeau can give Halifax their first lost and end the perfect record to send it back here for a Game 5 or if the Mooseheads can become the first team to go undefeated in 16 games.

50/50: Last night's fifty-fifty winner won $30,118

HALIFAX - Mooseheads have still not lost in regulation since February 8th. Halifax got out to a 3-0 lead in a game that had many fights and rough stuff. Baie-Comeau was down 4-1 with three and a half minutes left. To try to tie it up the Drakkar pulled their goalie in the earliest amount of time I have heard. It worked a little bit as they were able to close the gap to one goal. They couldn't tie it but scored with 2 seconds left.

SERIES
Halifax leads the best-of-seven series 1-0

PREVIEW - The Halifax Mooseheads are now only 3 wins away from their first President's Cup.

Halifax just keeps on winning and lead their final series against Baie-Comeau after one game. After almost 40 minutes of a scoreless game, Konrad Abeltshauser scored the first goal of the game and his fifth of the playoffs. In the third however Halifax were able to get their footing back and get pucks past the goaltender with a 3 goal last twenty minutes. What looked like what was going to be the Herd's only second two goal game ended being a four goal game. The Moose got a goal from Ryan Falkenham to make it a 3-0 game with just over 5 minutes left in the period. That was his first ever playoff goal. Stefan Fournier scored his team leading 14th in the empty net with 1:05 left to put the game away while Zach Fucale came up big at times on his way to a 28 save shutout.

Nathan MacKinnon was held off the score sheet for the first time since Game 2 in the series against Saint John. Jonathan Drouin recorded an assist. There was a lot of rough stuff during the first game with 11 roughing penalties and six unsportsmanlike conducts.

Baie-Comeau was able to outshoot Halifax in the first period but by the end of the game they were the ones outshot by a 34-28 margin.

NOT PLAYING - Lovell, Bailey, Alcalde, Lindsay and Lacroix-Courville will probably all be healthy scratches again tonight.

My recap: Zach Fucale was a beast once again as he recorded his third shutout of the playoffs.

The Canadian Press's recap: Zachary Fucale made 28 saves and Stefan Fournier had a goal and two assists as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 4-0 in Game 1 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final on Friday.

The Chronicle Herald's recap: The Halifax Mooseheads are one step closer to the Memorial Cup.

HalifaxMooseheads.ca's recap: The Moose have jumped out to a 1-0 series lead in the President Cup Finals on the strength of Zach Fucale 28-save shutout Friday night at the Metro Centre.

MISSING IN ACTION: Max Lindsay, Brian Lovell, Liam Alcalde, Brennan Bailey, Jonathan Lacroix-Courville were all healthy scratches.

ABELTSHAUSER: Konrad Abeltshauser scored his first goal of this year's playoffs. It was a very nice in tight goal, nobody was really sure who scored it but it was deemed to be Konrad's. ]

FUCALE: Zach became the second Moose player to receive the fur coat for the second time as he kept it from the last round. Fucale made 28 saves many of them very nice ones. He had a Patrick Roy moment:

FALKENHAM: Ryan Falkenham scored his first playoff goal in his career last night.

SOLD OUT: Last night's game was only the second sellout of this years playoffs. With tonight's sellout, the Mooseheads are averaging 10,091 fans per home game.

SCOUTS: There were many scouts at the game last night, with about 20 to 30 scouts from different teams.

ROUGHING: There was plenty of rough stuff last night. The Drakkar kept up with the rough stuff from their previous series and tried to get the Herd to fight with them but Halifax hardly responded as much as Baie-Comeau wanted them to.

50/50: Last night's fifty-fifty winner won $27,701 a new team record

RECAP: Good Start.

Drakkar keep big guns off goal sheet
Halifax Mooseheads vs Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Series: HAL leads 1-0
STARS: 3. Falkenham (HAL) | 2. Lewis (HAL) | 1. Fucale (HAL)
Attendance: 10,595

HALIFAX - Zach Fucale was a beast once again as he recorded his third shutout of the playoffs. Just like in Game 4 of the Drakkar/Armada series, Baie-Comeau seemed to not like losing at all. There was a dust up in the second period and than a few more at the last couple of minutes of the game. Jonathan Drouin hit a Drakkar player who got up and than Drouin hit the same player again into the boards. The player stayed laying on the ice for a few minutes while another Baie-Comeau player jumped Drouin and a fight ensued. Big Jo was lucky enough not to get anything for it. It looked like it was going to be a very low scoring game with neither team being able to put a puck past the goaltenders in the first 43 minutes and 40 seconds. Konrad Abeltshauser scored the only goal in the 2nd period.
