The Truro Bearcats and Summeside Western Capitals keep playing each other as
both of their seasons continued last night. The two teams battled it out earlier
in April for the Kent Cup, the Maritime Junior A Hockey League Chamionship
trophy. Summerside won the Kent Cup and a berth in the Fred Page Cup for the
Eastern Regional playoffs. Despite being the runner up, Truro had an automatic
berth in the Fred Page Cup no matter how they did as they were selected to be
hosts. Joining Truro and Summerside were the Cornwall Colts of the Central
Canada Hockey League and the Langueuil College Francais of the Quebec Junior AAA
Hockey League. The Bearcats ended the round robin with a 3-0 record and first
place while Summerside was 2-1 and second. The Bearcats advanced right to the
finals with Summerside went to the semis and won to set up a rematch of the MHL
championship. Truro won in double overtime 3-2.
The Western Capitals
host the national championships, the Royal Bank Cup, starting May 11. The
Maritime teams will be joined in the Royal Bank Cup by the Surrey Eagles, Brooks
Bandits and Minnesota Wilderness.
