Quebec next Memorial Cup hosts

The 2015 Memorial Cup hosts was announced today. With the Saskatoon Blades (WHL) holding it last season and the London Knights hosting it this coming May, it is time for one of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams to be opening their doors to the four lucky undetermined teams.

From the press conference, the selection committee president Paul Wilson said of the decision
The committee’s decision to select Quebec to host the event is based on the fact that their bid had all the elements from top to bottom to convince us that they would present an excellent 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup: great hockey team, good organizing committee and superior installations. Moreover, we felt that the whole community was behind the bid. Each organization was well-prepared and made very professional presentations.

Congratulations to Quebec City. What kind of talks will be had after this announcement? It's the third straight time that a Quebec province team has been named the host when it was the QMJHL's turn. Of course the Maritimes didn't have a chance after the Moncton Wildcats pulled out of the bidding process back in early November. That only left Quebec and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens to bid for hosting rights.

Breaking tradition in the three year rotation which each league hosts, the QMJHL will also host the Memorial Cup in 2017. Chicoutimi may place a bid for that year while the Saint John Sea Dogs will look to make a bid, hoping to win it at home.

Here is how the rotation will go down for the next 5 seasons:
2014     OHL         London Knights
2015     QMJHL    Quebec Remparts
2016     WHL
2017     QMJHL
2018     OHL           *100th Memorial Cup
