Ehlers 13th in final rankings

If he had come over to Canada a year earlier he probably would've been ranked in the top 5 for the final central scouting rankings that were released today. However, being ranked #13 is not bad for the rookie season that Nikolaj Ehlers had this season with your Halifax Mooseheads.

Ehlers is also the highest ranked Quebec Major Junior Hockey League player which is different than last season where half of the top 10 ranked players were from the Q. There is a clear consensus that the Ontario Hockey League is a lot stronger draft eligible wise this year as 6 of the top 10 are from the OHL. Samual Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs was ranked #1 once again.

Danny Moynihan and Matt Murphy were ranked once again but dropped in their final positions from the mid-term rankings. Moynihan was ranked #77 down from being ranked 66th in January while second year draft eligible Murphy droped from 105th to #128.

The 2014 NHL draft will take place in Philadelphia this year. I will be tweeting and blogging during the weekend, keeping an eye on our boys as they hopefully get drafted. The rankings are to show what the scouts think of how well each player is doing and where the consensus is that teams would take them. As we saw last year, being ranked #1 does not mean that you will be picked first overall nor does it mean you will get picked at all.

Good luck to Matt, Nikolaj and Danny in June. For the full listing of the final CSS rankings click here.
