For the third season in a row, the Memorial Cup hosts have been eliminated before the third round. With a 5-4 loss to the top seeded Guelph Storm, the London Knights are eliminated from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs. The Storm were able to beat the 4th seeded Knights 4 games to 1 game in the second round. The fact that Guelph was able to win in 5 games is kind of surprising in it's self as most people were predicting this series would be one of the most interesting and go 7 games. This is because despite the fact that they were three spots apart in the Western Conference standings, there was only 5 points between them as both had more than 100 points.
London will host the Memorial Cup starting May 16 at the Bud Gardens with the championship game on May 25. The 2013 hosts, the Saskatoon Blades, were eliminated in the first round last season while in the 2012 season the Shawinigan Cataractes lost in the second round. So the Knights will have a month to get back to work before they look to win the national championship on home ice.
