It was a big night for two of the biggest parts of the Halifax Mooseheads team this season at the QMJHL Golden Puck awards that were last night. Rookie sensation Nikolaj Ehlers, who recorded the second highest team rookie points, was named rookie of the year and top professional prospect in the Q at the ceremony. Ehlers wasn't the only Moosehead to win two trophies yesterday. Goaltender Zach Fucale was named personality of the year, an award that Jonathan Drouin won last season. Zach also had the best goals against average for a goalie this season.
Speaking of Drouin, after winning all three awards he was nominated for last season, Jonathan was not given the trophy for MVP again this year. Anthony Mantha of the Val-d'Or Foreurs was named the most valuable player this season. Brent Andrews, Brendan Duke and Mackenzie Weegar did not win the awards they were nominated for.
Ehlers played good enough this season to be named to two all-star teams. He was named to the second and rookie all star teams this season. He is joined by Fucale and Weegar on the second all star team. Drouin was named to the first all star team along with former Moosehead Randy Gazzola who currently plays for the Fourers.
