Brassard Out Indefinitely, Langlais Recalled

Eric Brassard will be out indefinitely
Photo via Myles Dennis on Facebook
Halifax Mooseheads announced today that goaltender Eric Brassard is out indefinitely with a lower body injury. Brassard sustained the injury during a match-up against the Quebec Remparts on Friday evening. The former Rempart started Friday's game but was trying to make a play in his net and possibly stretched too far. Chronicle Herald writer Willy Palov stated that Eric will be out for 4 weeks. This injury will effect the Moose quite a bit. Brassard had been pretty good for his new team since being traded on December 19. He had a 4-1-1 record with a 2.40 goals against average.

This means Kevin Resop will become the starter for a while and Christopher Langlais was recalled from the South Shore Lumberjacks of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.

Voracek Leads Team Toews

The 2015 National Hockey League All-Star weekend is now complete and Team Toews was able to win the game while Team Foligno won the skills competition. Former Halifax Mooseheads forward Jakub Voracek had a very awesome game. The Philadelphia Flyers player went back to the city that drafted him back in 2007 and was booed by the Columbus Blue Jackets fans. Voracek scored a hat trick and assisted on three others in his first appearance at the all-star competition. He joins Mario Lemieux with the most points in an all-star game. The 25 year old also participated in the skills competition on Saturday night. He was in the breakaway challenge, team relay and the shootout.

Jonathan Drouin did not participate in the actual game as he is a rookie. He was in the fastest skater competition and WON with a time of 13.103 seconds. He also participated in the shootout.

RECAP: Fucale Best Former Team

QUEBEC CITY - Goaltender Zach Fucale was in enemy colours on Friday night as the Mooseheads visited the Remparts at the Colisee Pepsi and was almost perfect against his former team. Fucale picked up his second win as a Rempart, making 24 saves to collect a 6-1 victory. Halifax couldn't muster too much in the second half of the game after taking penalties. Two 5 on 3's back to back gave Quebec all the life they needed scoring two goals to make it a 3-1 game instead of a 1-1 tie. It was very evident that these two teams do not like each other even with the turn around. Fucale was basically the only that was having any fun with our boys and you could see that when Nikolaj Ehlers fell down on his net and both guys had a chuckle. Halifax goalie Eric Brassard seemed to hold the Moose in the game for the first half making 19 saves before being taken down and having to leave the game with what will probably be called a lower body injury. The evil Adam Erne, who has always somehow gotten under the skin of the Herd did so again last night, recording a goal and 4 assists. Erne technically scored two goals on the night but the refs determined that the play was offside for the first one and took it back.

Konecny, Meier Lead Team Orr

Timo Meier certainly did not hurt his draft stock during last night's BMO Top Prospects game.

The Halifax Mooseheads forward help lead his team, under coach Bobby Orr, to a 6-0 victory over the team coached by Don Cherry. Meier, who hails from Harisu, Switzerland, scored a first period goal and assisted on two others. The 18 year old was playing on a line with top ranked Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters and Ottawa 67's sophmore Travis Konecny. McDavid had an assist in a game that was sold out because everyone wants to see this kid play. He created plenty of plays for Timo and Konecny to use to get their points however. Travis scored two goals and had an assist for Team Orr and received the player of the game.

PREVIEW: Quebec Road Trip

Since I am going on the road with the Mooster Club, I figured I would preview this weekend's trip through the province of Quebec. The first stop on the trip will be visiting the largest arena in the Canadian Hockey League for some Friday night hockey. Games between the Quebec Remparts and the Halifax Mooseheads are always entertaining, including last year. The Mooseheads will than be travelling south part of the province to take on the Sherbrooke Phoenix. There isn't much history between Halifax and the Phoenix as the team that wears blue and white has only been in the league for two and a half seasons. Halifax's last home game was against the Drummondville Voltigeurs and that's who they'll end this four game road streak against on Sunday evening.

This is the second game of the season series, with Halifax coming out on top on December 11th in 4-3 home overtime victory. Former Herd player Matt Murphy scored twice for the Mooseheads while Kevin Resop made 30 saves. The Remparts have a 26-17-1-2 record which is good enough for 55 points and 5th overall in the standings. Quebec is led by Dmytro Timashov (15G & 48A), Adam Erne (27G & 28A), and Guillaume Gauthier (19G & 25A). The Remparts are coming off a 3-2 loss on Sunday at home despite outshooting the Charlottetown Islanders 38-29. Nikolas Brouillard had a goal and an assist to lead Quebec while Fucale made 26 saves to take the loss.

Halifax has yet to play the Phoenix this season. The Mooseheads were 1-1-0-0 against Sherbrooke last season while the blue and white team was 1-0-0-1 in 2013-14. This will be only the 6th meeting between these two teams with our boys having the advantage in the series, after winning all three games during the 2012-13 season. The Phoenix have a 24-16-1-3 record, good enough for 8th overall in the standings. Sherbrooke's top 3 scorers are Daniel Audette (19G & 30A), Kay Schweri (7G & 41A), and Tim Wieser (30G & 15A). The Phoenix are coming off an almost collapse to the sixth overall Sea Dogs on Sunday at home. Audette helped Sherbrooke build a 4-0 lead with 2 goals and 2 assists in the game before Saint John forced a shootout. Evan Fitzpatrick made 28 saves to get the 6-5 victory.

When this game is played, there will be 10 days between this matchup and the previous one these two teams played. The Mooseheads hosted the Volts back on January 15 and skated away with a hard fought 3-2 shootout victory. Anthony Brodeur stopped 53 of Halifax's 55 shots in regulation and overtime but couldn't stop a nice goal by Cavan Fitzgerald in the shootout. The Voltigeurs has 45 points with a 21-21-0-3 for a 14th place in the standings. Joey Ratelle (27G & 12A), Alex Barre-Boulet (14G & 19A) and George Golovkovs (9G & 18A) lead Drummondville in scoring so far this season. The Voltigeurs are coming off a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Screaming Eagles in Sydney on Saturday. Drummondville was once again out-shot, only getting 14 pucks on Cape Breton's net. Joe Fleschler made 22 saves letting in 4 goals before being replaced by Brodeur who made 8 saves.

The National Hockey League along side Central Scouting Services announced their mid-season rankings for the upcoming 2015 NHL entry draft. This year's draft will be held in Sunrise, Florida  on June 26 & 27. With his hot play, Timo Meier is close to the top 10. The Herisau, Switzerland native was ranked 12th out of the 210 players ranked in North American clubs. Meier has a team leading 25 goals scored this season in 37 games played but his 56 points are just two behind fellow European Nikolaj Ehlers.

Boston, Massachusetts native Connor Moynihan was ranked 142nd by the CSS. The 17 year old has 4 goals and 8 points in 37 games. Former Halifax Mooseheads player Matt Murphy was ranked 138th. He's scored twice so far in 11 games played for the Quebec Remparts while also helping on 4 others. This is the second year that Murphy has been in the draft rankings.

As always Connor McDavid of the OHL's Erie Otters and former Herd draftee Jack Eichel of Boston University were ranked the top 2 draft eligible players.

Provincial rivals. There's not a lot you can say more than that. Games between these two are always entertaining. Both teams are coming into today with winning streaks so one of them is going to end when the Screaming Eagles welcome the Mooseheads to Centre 200. Halifax should have the upper hand on Cape Breton if you look at the standings but we know that you can never base an outcome on where teams are in the standings.

This is the sixth game between the Eagles and Moose this season. Halifax has a 3-2-0-0 record against their provincial rivals while Cape Breton is 2-3-0-0 against the Herd. Danny Moynihan led the visiting team to a 4-1 win with a goal and 2 assists back on December 28.

Scotiabank Centre (10,595) ~ Halifax, NS

Your Halifax Mooseheads will be playing their last game on a four-game homestand tonight when they welcome the Drummondville Voltigeurs to the Scotiabank Centre. They've been pretty good during the previous three matchups on this homestand, losing the first game disappointedly to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Tonight won't be as emotional as Saturday's game but it should be just as exciting. One point separates these two teams in the standings so it should be a tight game but you never know. Halifax will need to start getting some secondary scoring if they're going to want to make a push in the second half of the season to the playoffs. New guys Sam Hunter and Eric Brassard haven't been too shabby, Brassard made 53 saves in his last two starts both wins. Hunter got his first point with the Mooseheads back on Friday and he's still learning the defense systems that Coach Dom Ducharme has in place for the team but sitting behind the bench, I can tell you that he wants to learn.

This is the first game of the season between these two teams. Halifax was 2-0-0-0 against the Volts last season while Drummondville was 0-2-0-0 against the Mooseheads. Halifax won the last meeting 5-2 Darcy Ashley scoring 2 goals and assisting on another while Jonathan Drouin recorded 3 assists.

Overall Records
Voltigeurs: 21-20-0-2 = 44 points (4th in West division, 13th overall)
Mooseheads: 21-18-2-1 = 45 points (3rd in Maritimes division, 11th overall)

Drummondville is coming off a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Sea Dogs on Wednesday night. Despite outshooting the opponent 36-20, the Volts could only get goals from Adam Chapman and Sergei Boikov past the Saint John goaltender on the road.

Halifax is coming off a 3-1 victory against Blainville-Boisbriand on Saturday night. Timo Meier and Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and an assist to lead the Mooseheads while Eric Brassard stopped 32 shots to get the home win versus the Armada.

Fucale Debuts For Remparts With Victory

He's starting right off where he left off. Former Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Zach Fucale played his first game as a member of the Quebec Remparts tonight. Fucale and the Remparts were taking on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at home, so it didn't take long for Quebec fans to see what Halifax fans have been seeing the past three seasons. Fucale didn't get tested often against the Titan though. He had to make only 11 saves leading to a 6-0 win.

Two other former Mooseheads players helped the Remparts to a victory. Matt Murphy, who was traded with Fucale back on the first day of the winter trading period, scored at 16:57 of the first period. Defenceman Brian Lovell also scored plus added an assist for his 1st two points as a Rempart. Both boys were a plus-2 rating on the night.

Congratulations boys. Hope this journey is another good one for all of you. Zach even got third star honours after the game.

Ehlers Named 3rd Star

Nikolaj Ehlers
The QMJHL has released its three stars of the week for January 5-11, 2015 and Halifax Mooseheads forward Nikolaj Ehlers was given the 3rd star. In a 6-3 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques, Ehlers scored a hat trick to help the team in his return from the World Juniors. He recorded a total of 4 goals and 2 assists in two game played this past weekend, both wins. Nik was also a plus-5 this week.

This weekend's games give Ehlers 20 goals and 53 points in 25 games played this season. That's good enough for thirteenth overall in Q scoring.

He joins Evgeni Svechnikov of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Shawinigan Catractes' Gabriel Slight. Svechnikov had 3 goals and 6 assists in 3 games with a plus-4. Slight also scored three goals and collected 7 points in two games.

QMJHL Names Scholastic POM

Every month, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announces a Scholastic Player of the Month which recognizes a player on each team with his performance on ice and in the classroom. The player is selected based on their school results, their implication, the school-hockey conciliation, their team spirit and their on-ice performances.

For your Halifax Mooseheads, Kevin Resop was named the Scholastic Player of the Month for December 2014. Resop had a 3-2-0-0 record during the month with a 3.76 goals against average and a 0.891 save percentage.

Scotiabank Centre (10,595) ~ Halifax, NS

It's time to say goodbye. What is happening tonight normally doesn't happen in junior hockey. When a player gets traded they just go right to their new team and start playing. However, the Mooseheads franchise goaltender Zach Fucale requested coming back for one more game to say his goodbyes to the fans. After winning the gold medal on Monday, Fucale came back to Halifax to pack up his belongings and have a couple of last days with his billet parents. The Herd announced earlier this week that Zach would be back at the Scotiabank Centre tonight to drop the ceremonial puck. It'll be an exciting time for everyone in attendance but the current team will have to push all that excitement down after the real puck drop and get back to business. They'll be going up against the hottest team of late in the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Luckily Coach Ducharme has a fully healthy lineup for the first time this season and will be able to put out the best team available.

This is the second and final game between these two teams. Halifax is 0-1-0-0 against the Armada this season while Blainville is 1-0-0-0 versus the Mooseheads. The 2 teams met on October 25 last with the Armada skating away for a 2-1 win at home ice. Brandon Vuic scored the lone Herd goal while Zach Fucale made 18 saves.

Overall Records
Armada: 24-11-1-4 = 53 points (1st in West division, 3rd overall)
Mooseheads: 20-18-2-1 = 43 points (3rd in Maritimes division, 11th overall)

The Mooseheads are coming off a big win against Gatineau at home last night. Halifax was led by Nikolaj Ehlers who scored a hat trick and had an assist in the 6-3 victory while Eric Brassard took the decision against the Olympiques.

RECAP: Ehlers, Meier Help In Return

HALIFAX - Once again, it didn't take long for Danish forward Nikolaj Ehlers to make an impact in his return from the U20 world ice hockey championships. After a nice pregame ceremony where Ehlers, Swiss forward Timo Meier and Gatineau Olympiques coach Benoit Groulx were honored for playing at the tournament it looked like it might take a while for Moose Country to be able to throw their teddies on the ice. However, 13 minutes into the first period second year American forward Danny Moynihan scored to give the Mooseheads a 1-0 lead and the stuffed animals flew. Nikolaj scored a minute and a half into the second to push it to 3-0 with his second of the night. He would score the hat trick with 15:05 left in the game which would seal the victory for Halifax. Meier chipped in with 4 assists in his return while the Herd also welcomed back Ryan Falkenham, who got an assist in his first game since November 15.

It's going to be a welcoming party at the Scotiabank Centre tonight when your Halifax Mooseheads host the Gatinrau Olympiques. Halifax will welcome back three players to the lineup. Captain Ryan Falkenham returns from injury tonight while Nikolaj Ehlers and Timo Meier return from individually successful World Junior tournaments. Speaking of the World Juniors, the Mooseheads will have a world champion coach to battle against this evening. Benoit Groulx led Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2015 tournament in Toronto and will try to lead his Olympiques to a victory against Halifax in his first game back behind the Gatineau bench. Halifax will also welcome a new player to the bench after the team announced earlier this week that they signed Toronto, ON native and free agent Sam Hunter. With all that who would think that this has been a big event from the beginning of the season. Tonight is Halifax's annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Don't forget to bring your stuffed animals and throw them on the ice when the Mooseheads score their first goal.

This is the second and last game of the season between thesse two teams. Halifax is 1-0-0-0 against the Olympiques while Gatienau is 0-1-0-0 against the Mooseheads this year. The two teams last met on October 24 with the visiting Herd coming out with a big 9-6 victory on the road. Phil Gadoury led Halifax with 5 points (2 goals and 3 assists) while Zach Fucale made 20 saves on 26 shots.

Overall Records
Olympiques: 15-23-0-4 = 34 points (6th in West division, 16th overall)
Mooseheads: 19-17-2-1 = 41 points (4th in Maritimes division, 14th overall)

Leading Scorers
HFX: Nikolaj Ehlers 47pts (16G & 31A), Timo Meier 46pts (21G & 25A), Danny Moynihan 39pts (18G & 21A)
GAT: Louick Marcotte 44pts (22G & 22A), Yakov Trenin 37pts (11G & 26A), Alexandre Carrier 34pts (6G & 28A)

Last Games
The Olympiques are coming off a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Sydney. Elie Berube had 2 goals and an assist to lead Gatienau while Nicolas Lachance was chased from the game after allowing 2 goals on 7 shots on Wednesday night.

The Mooseheads are coming off a disappointing loss to the 18th place Acadie-Bathurst. Danny Moynihan scored the only goal in a 3-1 defeat to the Titan on the road while Kevin Resop made 22 saves as Halifax was outshot 25-18 in the game this past Sunday.

Mooseheads Sign Free Agent Hunter

Sam Hunter
via ojhlimages
The Halifax Mooseheads announced today that they have made an addition to the team. Halifax has signed Ontario free agent Sam Hunter. The 17 year old will join the team this weekend at home when the team welcomes the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday night. In 31 games played during the 2012-13 season with the Mississauga Senators, Hunter recorded 16 points with 36 penalty minutes. At 6'2", he'll add more size to the Mooseheads defense core. He currently plays for the St. Michael's Buzzers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, recording 2 assists and 43 penalty minutes in 29 games this season.

ARGENTO CALLED UP
Halifax announced yesterday that they have called up rookie defenceman Domenico Argento for this weekend's games. The 16 year old has played in 31 games for Rousseau Royal de Laval - Montreal and has 22 points (11 goals & 11 assists). The Mooseheads drafted the six-foot-two Montreal native 74th overall in the 2014 QMJHL entry draft.

First let's start with the tournament awards
Most Valuable Player: Denis Godla (Slovakia - goaltender)
All-star team: goaltender - Denis Godla (Slovakia); defencemen - Gustav Forsling (Sweden) & Josh Morrissey (Canada); forwards - Sam Reinhart (Canada), Max Domi (Canada) & Connor McDavid (Canada)

We already know who won but here are the final standings

Silver - Russia
Bronze - Slovakia
4th - Sweden
5th - United States
6th - Czech Republic
7th - Finland
8th - Denmark
9th - Switzerland

Three Canada players were tied at the top of the scoring leaders with 11 points; Sam Reinhart, Nicolas Petan and Connor McDavid. Max Domi 10 (Canada), William Nylander 10 (Sweden), Curtis Lazar 9 (Canada), Oskar Lindblom 9 (Sweden), Martin Reway 9 (Slovakia), Adrian Kempe 8 (Canada) round out the top 10.

Former Halifax Mooseheads and current Quebec Remparts goaltender Zach Fucale led all goalies in save percentage and goals against average during the tournament. Fucale had a GAA of 1.20 and had a 0.939 save percentage.

This concludes Moose Country's coverage of the 2015 World Juniors. Congrats to Team Canada and Zach Fucale on winning the gold medal. Timo Meier and Nikolaj Ehlers should be back for the Mooseheads games at home starting Friday night. They both played awesome for their teams, I expect that at least Meier will be on Team Switzerland at next year's tournament.

TRADE PERIOD: Holiday Trading Brings Changes

I already posted this on my social media accounts but I thought I would do a post summarizing what your Halifax Mooseheads did during the winter trade period.

Normally when the World Juniors end, players go back to their junior teams unless they have been traded. This is the case for 19 year old goaltender Zach Fucale. The Rosemere, Quebec native was traded just days before the World Juniors began to the Quebec Remparts. Fucale might done the Rempart jersey for the first time tomorrow night when they visit the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He was apart of a 3 player trade back in December. Zach will be joining Matt Murphy on the Quebec bench. Murphy has already played 5 games with the Remparts, scoring a goal and adding 3 assists. Matt now wears 55.

As part of the trade with Quebec, the Mooseheads gained a veteran goalie in Eric Brassard as well as three picks in future drafts. Brassard has a 2-1-0-0 record in 3 games played with the Herd since Christmas break.

Overager Jesse Lussier was traded by the Moose to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Monday. In return the team got a 3rd round pick in the upcomign QMJHL draft. Lussier was averaging 1/2 a point per game, scoring 3 goals and collecting 12 points in 24 games played with Halifax this season. This trade leaves the Mooseheads with an overage spot open.

Well with the trades that they have made it is clear that the Remparts are really pushing to win the Memorial Cup on home ice this year. They added former Mooseheads player Brian Lovell to their roster in a trade with the Sagueneens today. Quebec City now has 3 former natinal champions on their roster.

Good luck to all 4 players with their new teams. Unfortunately, Moose fans won't be seeing the four boys in Mosoe Country again this season.

WJC: Fucale Wins Gold WIth Canada

Venue: Air Canada Centre

RECAP: Well the World Juniors are done for another year. Team Canada is back on top, after winning a close 5-4 game against Team Russia on Monday night. Former Halifax Mooseheads goaltender Zahc Fucale stopped 26 shots, including all 11 in the final frame, to help the Canadians end it's medal drought. Fucale was apart of the team that lost to Russia in last year's bronze medal game 2-1, Hockey Canada's second straight bronze medal defeat. The victory not only ended the medal-less drought but also the Gold Medal drought. The red and white had not won gold since 2009 before last night. The Quebec Remparts goaltender had to make some pretty good saves in the third period to hold of the Russians push to tie the game. Canada got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first 2:32 of the game and built up a 5-1 lead with under 6 minutes to go in the second period. Russia squeezed 3 goals in those final minutes of the middle frame to make it a 5-4 game. Fucale stood tall and led his team to victory.

Moynihan Gets First Star

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today the stars of the month for December. Halifax Mooseheads player Daniel Moynihan was named the first star. The Boston, Massachusetts native led the Herd in points and assists. In 9 games, Moynihan scored 6 goals and collected 11 assists. He maintained a plus-5 rating for the month which was third on the team.

Danny is joined this month by Cameron Darcy of the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Darcy recorded 14 points in 6 games played during the month of December. Quebec Remparts player Ryan Graves received third star honours. Graves scored 6 goals and assisted on 5 others.

Congratulations to Danny and the other two players.

WJC: Fucale, Canada Will End Medal Drought

Venue: Air Canada Centre

RECAP: Team Canada is rolling with former Mooseheads player Zach Fucale and so far it has worked in their favour. The Canadians defeated a tough Slovak team on Sunday evening to get a berth in the Gold Medal game at the 2015 World Junior Championships. They will now go up against Team Russia on Monday night. Fucale had to only make 15 saves but some were pretty good saves that he had to make in tight and from the point. Team Slovakia was able to keep themselves in the game with the goaltender of Denis Godla for the first 38 minutes. Nic Petan's second goal started an onslaught of late second period goals that gave the red and white a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Slovaks will now face Team Sweden in the bronze medal game, which is a great accoplishment for the country's hockey program.

Current Halifax Mooseheads player Timo Meier played a role in the two victories. He had a goal and two assists in the deciding game on Saturday night in Toronto. Both games had the same outcome. It was the only match-up yesterday evening. This means that Germany has been relegated to Division 1A group play at next year's tournament.

WJC: Semi Finals Now Set

It's an off day for most of the teams left in the 2015 World U20 Championships today. The quarterfinals were played yesterday and four more teams were eliminated from medal contention. In a tough tight game that got away from the United States by taking 8 penalties, Russia skated away with a 3-2 win over their rivals. Canada won handily over Denmark at the ACC but ended the game showing true Canadian character by letting the Danes salute the Toronto crowd first before they did it themselves.

Zach Fucale and Timo Meier are still playing. Fucale will get the start for Team Canada against Team Slovakia tomorrow and will try to erase the memory of last year. Meier meanwhile is trying to help his Team Switzerland stay in the top division. They have a 1-0-0-0 record in the best-of-3 relegation round and are playing the second game tonight against Germany.

Here's the schedule for Sunday's semi final games:
SF1    1B Sweden vs. Russia 3B 5:00pm/AT    TSN
SF2    1A Canada vs. Slovakia 3A 9:00pm/AT     TSN

SAINT JOHN SEA DOGS vs. HALIFAX MOOSEHEADS
January 3, 2014 at 7:00pm
TV: Webcast | Radio: News 95.7 | Live: @station_nation
Harbour Station (6,200) ~ Saint John, NB

Welcome to 2015. Your Halifax Mooseheads travel to Saint John for the first game of the new year and will be looking to start off 2015 the way they ended 2014, with a victory. The goaltending is going to have to be stellar tonight as the Sea Dogs have had the Herd's number so far this season. With two wins in the two games that he has begun, Eric Brassard might be our #1 goalie for the rest of the season with Kevin Resop getting a game here or there. I predict that we will see another feisty game like there has been all season between these two teams, with former Sea Dogs player Kelly Bent in the thick of it.

Your Mooseheads have a 0-4-1-0 record against Saint John this season while the Sea Dogs are a perfect 5-0-0-0 against Halifax. The two teams last met about a month ago on December 6 with Saint John skating away with a 3-1 win in Moose Country. Timo Meier had the lone goal for Halifax while Zach Fucale made 20 saves in his last ever start for the Moose.

Overall Records
Mooseheads: 19-16-2-1 = 41 points (3rd in Maritimes division, 9th overall)
Sea Dogs: 22-10-1-4 = 49 points (2nd in Maritimes division, 5th overall)

Last Games
Your Mooseheads finished 2014 with a bang, defeating the visiting Charlottetown Islanders 5-1 on New Year's Eve. Danny Moynihan had 3 assists to lead Halifax in points and Phil Gadoury scored twice while Eric Brassard made 22 saves for the win.

Saint John is coming off a home victory against Cape Breton, winning 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Mathieu Joseph led the Sea Dogs with a goal and 2 assists while Sebastien Auger stopped 27 of the Screaming Eagles 30 shots.

WJC: Denmark's Cinderella Story Ends Against Canada

Venue: Air Canada Center

RECAP - They came in as underdogs and for the first 25 minutes, George Sorenson fought hard to keep his team in the game. Canada were a lot hungrier and tougher than Team Denmark, with Curtis Lazar scoring twice en route to a 8-0 win. Former Halifax Mooseheads player Zach Fucale received the call for this game and was not tested much by a pesky Danish team but recorded a second shutout in the 2015 tournament. Current Herd member, Nikolaj Ehlers was Denmark's second best player recording 4 shots and a minus-1 rating. The victory gives Canada a match-up against Slovakia in Sunday's semi-finals. The Danes tournament is done for the year but they will be staying in the top division for next year.

World Junior Quarterfinal Matchups

Happy New Year Moose Country. With the new year comes the medal round at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Toronto & Montreal, Canada. The last day brought some interesting finishes. Canada defeated the United States to get top spot in Group A, which ended the way most people thought it would. In Group B however, Sweden went undefeated and the game between the Czech Republic and Russia decided who would be in the quarters and in the relegation round.

Here is how the quarterfinal match-ups set up on Friday January 2:
QF1     2A United States vs. Russia 3B 2:00pm/AT     TSN
QF2     1B Sweden vs. Finland 4A 4:00pm/AT     TSN2
QF3     2B Czech Republic vs. Slovakia 3A 6:00pm/AT     TSN
QF4     1A Canada vs. Denmark 4B 9:00pm/AT     TSN

Germany and Switzerland will battle to stay in the top division in a best of 3 round between the two teams that were last in their respective group. Here's the relegation round schedule:
January 2 - 12:00pm/AT - Switzerland vs. Germany - Air Canada Centre
January 3 - 8:00pm/AT - Germany vs. Switzerland - Air Canada Centre
January 5 - 12:00pm/AT - Switzerland vs. Germany - Air Canada Centre

MOOSEHEADS TO BATTLE?
Nikolaj Ehlers might be shooting against his former teammate Zach Fucale on Friday in Denmark's first ever quarter final match-up. Though it has not been announced yet who will start for Team Canada in tomorrow's game, it is thought to be Fucale after he has allowed only 1 goal in his 2 preliminary starts this year.
