Dom & Team Canada play on

Dominique Ducharme, coach of your Halifax Mooseheads, will get a chance to win again.

Team Canada won Group A at the Ivan Hlinka memorial tournament to get a bye into the semis against Russia today. The Canadians went 1-1-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) during round robin play to end the first part of the tourney with 5 points and tied for first in their group. The red and white got first place by virtue of beating the other two tied teams, Czech Republic and Switzerland on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. This led to a battle against the Russians in which Canada won, 3-1.

Ducharme is helping Dale Hunter coach the Under-18's along with DJ Smith. The team will have to get past Team USA if they want to win their 6th straight gold medal at the summer tournament. USA played the Czechs in the other semi final on Friday. The 5th and 7th place games were earlier in the morning.

The bottom four places in the standings have been decided and it's Finland at 5th followed by Switzerland, Sweden and Slovakia. Russia will take on the Czech Republic Saturday for the bronze after the gold medal game. In a wierd twist, the gold medal game is being played before the bronze medal game but it is, not sure why.

Go CANADA Go
