Sea Dogs Force Extra Time

The 17th place Saint John Sea Dogs are fighting for a spot in the post-season and you could tell that they wanted the points as they took on the Halifax Mooseheads Friday night and forced extra time. Saint John got on the board first just over three minutes into the game and despite being outshot in the first period, the Sea Dogs played pretty well not allowing Halifax to dominate like they have in previous matches between these two teams. Arnaud Durandeau tied the game up at 1 at the 16:28 mark of the frame, that's how the first would end. The Mooseheads held a 3-1 lead mid-way through the second before the away team mounted a comeback. William Poirier scored on the power play and Nicholas Deakin-Poot evened the score late in the second. When Keith Getson picked up his 28th of the year it put the home team back in front and lifted the 10,595 fans to their feet as it looked like the Herd would skate away with a regulation victory. But Zachary Bouthillier, the Dogs goaltender, and local boy Brady Burns had something to say about that. Samuel Asselin took a four minutes high sticking penalty which allowed Saint John to get one past Cole McLaren and force overtime. The extra period solved nothing so the two clubs went to a shootout where Asselin redeemed himself by scoring the only goal in the penalty shot section.
