Whynot Scores OT Winner

Rookie defenceman Cameron Whynot scored his second goal of the season and it was a big one as it was the game winner to give the Halifax Mooseheads a 4-3 OT victory over the Gatineau Olympiques on Thursday night. The game started out pretty even with shots tied at 11 in the first period but Zachary Dean recored his 12th goal with 94 seconds remaining in the frame to give Gatineau a 1-0 lead. It was Dean's fourth marker against the Herd this season after picking up a hat trick on Sunday afternoon. Alexandre David would score his 1st as a Moosehead past the midway point of the game to tie the game up for Halifax. The third period was exciting. Gatineau would once again take the lead less then 5 minutes into the final frame but 60 seconds later Kevin Gursoy extended his point streak with a goal. Gursoy picked up his 16th at the 10:07 mark and it was the Mooseheads' first lead of the match. A power play goal by Mathieu Bizier later in the third and a number of nice saves by Alexis Gravel would send the game to extra time. It looked like we were going to see a shootout before Whynot skated in with the puck and flipped it over the Olympqiues goaltender to give the home team the win.
