MacKinnon and Drouin on Team Canada

December 21, 2012 (the world did not end!! :D)
Last Thursday (Dec 13), Nathan and Jonathan were named to the Canadian junior team that is set to play against the world's best under 20 year olds from the top 10 hockey countries. The tournament is set to start on Boxing Day and run to January 5, 2013. This post will keep you updated on Nate and Jo and the rest of Team Canada as they try to bring the gold back to hockey's birthplace.

Last night, the team played Team Finland in a pre-tournament game which took place in Helsinki, Finland. The Fins took the game by a score of 3-2. Scorers for Canada were Mark Scheifele and Griffin Reinhart. Team Canada was assessed 9 minor penalties during the game and allowed the first 2 Finland goals on two different 5-on-3 penalty kills. The Canadians were also outshot 22-15 and were without SJ Sea Dogs scorer Jonathan Huberdeau for the game as he was serving the last game of a four game suspension. The Red and White will now play Sweden in their second pre-tourney game tomorrow at 9am ET.

Drouin scores!! In the last pre-tournament game today, Canada played Sweden. Team Canada won the game in a shoot out with Nugent-Hopkins and Huberdeau scoring in the penalty shot portion of extra hockey. Mooseheads own Jonathan Drouin scored in regular time in the 2-1 SO win for Team Canada. Nathan MacKinnon also got on the score sheet with an assist on Jo's goal.

Boone Jenner was ejected from the game with a hit that left Sweden player Jesper Pettersson on the ice for a few minutes. He was then taken off the ice on a stretcher. Jenner will now face disciplinary action from the IIHF, who will decide what should happen later in the week.

Canada will now travel to Russia to start the games that count on Boxing Day. They will play Germany at 4:30am/et.
