3 Moose Named in Players to Watch

The Halifax Mooseheads continue to be good with draft eligible players. There are three Moose players ranked in the National Hockey League Central Scouting Services Players to Watch for November that was released today. Nikolaj Ehlers, Matt Murphy and Danny Moynihan are on the list.

Ehlers is rated as an 'A' player which means the CSS thinks he will go in the first round. If he continues the way he is, leading the team and league in rookie scoring, he should go mid first round in the 2014 NHL Draft. Here's a story about Nik on the NHL website about being upgraded to an A player

Both Murphy and Moynihan are rated as 'C' players which means they are projected to go in the 4th round or lower (5th, 6th, etc.). This is the second year of draft eligibility for Matt Murphy who was projected to go late in last year's draft but never got picked. He didn't go unnoticed however as he was invited to the St. Louis Blues development camp in the summer.

This is pretty good for all three players. Check back later in the season as we see how this story goes.

Breaking: Boudreau to Tigres

A week after former Moosehead Dominic Beachemin was traded to Rimouski after spending the first two months of the season with Acadie-Bathurst, another former Herd player has been traded.

The Shawinigan Cataractes announced today that they have traded Matt Boudreau to the Victriaville Tigres. Boudreau was the only player in this deal as Shawinigan receives Victoriaville's 4th and 9th round picks in the 2014 QMJHL Draft.

Boudreau was originally traded a day before the 2013 QMJHL draft in June to the Cataractes by the Halifax Mooseheads. Halifax recieved their first round pick 2014.

Good luck to Matt in Victoriaville. Moose fans will get to see him in a new sweater for the first time on December 5.

BREAKING: Duke staying

The Halifax Mooseheads announced this morning that they have resolved their overager issue. The team said that they will be keeping Brendan Duke as one of three overagers this season with the uncertainty of Trey Lewis and his hip injury.

A team can only keep three 20 year olds on their roster in any season and the Moose have not had to make a decision until today. Coming out of training camp, Duke, Lewis, Darcy Ashley and Brent Andews were all named on the roster as overagers because Ashley was injured to start the season. Just as Ashley came back, Lewis was announced to be injured. Because it is likely that Lewis might need surgery sometime this year, as Ryan Falkenham had to on Friday, Halifax has decided to make their decision now.

Trey has decided to join the Mirimachi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. He will remain on the team's 55 man protected list. He collected 63 points and 248 penalty minutes in 206 games over 4 seasons.

Halifax will be on the ice again on Thursday looking different with Ashley most likely being named captain for the rest of the season.

Good luck in the future Trey!

DND NIGHT
There was a special pregame ceremony yesterday evening to honour the men and women who have fought for our country. The Stadacona band played the national anthem. Check out my facebook page to watch the pregame ceremony. Halifax also wore special jerseys to honour the Sea King's 50 year anniversary.

FIGHTS
There were a few fights during the game last night including one at the end of the first period. Not only was there a lot of rough stuff I don't think the two teams like each other at all. Pushing, trash talking and crowds were the themes of last night.

REVIEW
Both teams had a goal reviewed in the first period. Jonathan Drouin's first goal was reviewed to see if it even went in and I guess it did. Moncton's goal was taken back after it was deemed to be put in with a high stick.

FUCALE
Zach Fucale received his first shutout of the season last night stopping all 25 shots he faced.

ANDREWS
Brent Andrews scored a highlight reel goal last night. He went between his legs and it just slipped by Alex Dubeau. A clip of the goal was shown on TSN's honor roll.

EHLERS
Nikolaj Ehlers was held pointless yesterday but for sure won the battle between him and Ivan Barbashev.

OTHER SCORES
Gatineau 1 - 3 Bathurst
Cape Breton 3 - 4 Sherbrooke SO
Chicoutimi 2 - 5 Blainville
Baie-Comeau 1 - 4 Rimouski

Puck drops at 8:00pm

PREVIEW - Tonight, the men and women who serve our country will be honored at the annual DND Appreciation night held by the team. In celebration of the event, the Halifax Mooseheads will be wearing special military themed jerseys.

This should be a very exciting game as the top eligible NHL draft picks will be going head to head tonight at the Metro Centre. Ehlers is leading all rookies in scoring so far. Not only will the fans in Halifax be able to see these top European players help their team win but the rest of Canada will too and so will many NHL scouts who will be in attendance.

This is the third game this season between the Wildcats and Mooseheads. Both teams have won a game on the road in the two games during September including the Herd's home opener, hopefully this trend does not continue tonight.

QMJHL Names Scholastic POM

Every month, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announces a Scholastic Player of the Month which recognizes a player on each team with his performance on ice and in the classroom. The player is selected based on their school results, their implication, the school-hockey conciliation, their team spirit and their on-ice performances.

For your Halifax Mooseheads, Darcy Ashley was named the Scholastic Player of the Month for October 2013. Ashley scored 8 goals and added 7 assists for 15 points during the month of October while missing the first 4 games of the month and September because of injury. He was named the first star of the week for the week ending October 27, 2013.
