Somppi Signs First Contract

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced some big news on Thursday regarding a Halifax Mooseheads player. Veteran Otto Somppi has signed his first professional contract with the Lightning after a career season with the Herd.

Somppi led the Mooseheads in the regular season with 28 goals and 83 points in 59 games played. He missed 7 of the 9 games that Halifax played during the 2018 playoffs because of an injury sustained in the opening game of the post-season. The 20 year old signed a three-year entry level contract with Tampa Bay, who had drafted him in the 7th round 206th overall in the 2016 NHL draft. Otto also led the team in plus/minus with a plus-39 which was 5th best in the league.

It will be interesting to see what the Bolts do with the Helsinki, Finland native as they could keep him with the big club or send him to the Syracuse Crunch or I'm sure a lot of Moose Country fans are hoping they will send Otto back to Halifax to help the Mooseheads in their quest to a league championship next season. Check out Otto's best goal of the season below.

Congrats to Otto on signing your first pro contract and good luck during training camp in September.
