vs BAT

Your Halifax Mooseheads haven't played a game in a week and will be looking to get valuable points tonight when they take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on the road. Halifax will most likely be without rookie leading scorer Otto Somppi this evening after he participated in the BMO Top Prospects game last night on the west coast. Despite the fact that the Mooseheads traded most of their best players earlier this month, they have been in probably 60% of games since than but third periods have been hit or miss. Both teams are looking to get back into the win column after coming off losses last weekend.

Overall Records
Titan: 18-24-3-2 = 41 points (5th in Maritimes division, 16th overall)
Mooseheads: 15-27-5-1 = 36 points (6th in Maritimes division, 17th overall)

Leading Scorers
HAL: Maxime Fortier 60pts (26G & 34A), Otto Somppi 33pts (9G & 24A), Anthony Sorrentino 24pts (15G & 9A)

Halifax is coming off a close 4-3 loss in Val-d'Or on Friday night. Otto Somppi and Maxime Fortier led the team with 2 goals each against the Foreurs while Kevin Resop made 32 saves for the Mooseheads.

Moynihan Gives Late Game Heroics

That's how you end a homestand! Both teams looked like they wanted to put a stop to their losing streaks and for one it happened. Your Halifax Mooseheads skated away with a 2-0 victory this evening with Eric Brassard picking up the 31 save shutout. The Mooseheads have played the last five games on home ice but lost the last 3 in big ways. It was a much better game tonight for Brassard and the Herd after a disappointing one on Tuesday night where they let in 4 goals in the first 18 minutes, prompting Dom Ducharme to pull Eric. Halifax and Quebec went a period and a half without a goal or penalties happening. Max Fortier and Connor Moynihan crashed the net in a desperate move by the Moose to score on the powerplay. Moynihan received the rebound and potted it in the back of the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead with 44 seconds left. The Remparts immediately pulled their goalie to tie the game but Andrew Shewfelt shot the puck in the empty net from centre ice sending Moose Country home happy.

vs RIM

How will Halifax fare without their top guns? Well tonight Mooseheads fans get their first look at the new post-trade period team in Moose Country when they host the Rimouski Oceanic. Gone are captain Timo Meier, former leading scorer Danny Moynihan, defenseman Cavan Fitzgerald and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Cody Donaghey. Newcomer Jocktan Chainey has played well since suiting up in his first game with the Herd after Christmas while this evening's annual teddy bear toss game should be Zack Taylor and Anthony Sorrentino's debut match in the red and green. That's right fans, it's the Halifax Mooseheads teddy bear toss game so be sure to bring a stuffed animal to the rink with you to throw on the ice after the Mooseheads' first goal. All stuffed animals will go to Ronald McDonald House. Halifax is coming into tonight's match up as a team that has gotten points in their last 3 games with all three going to overtime. In two of the games, the Herd gained a 2-0 lead only to give it up and than have to come back from two goal deficits to tie the game to get an extra point. Rookie Otto Somppi is becoming Mr. Clutch scoring either a tying goal and/or the game winning goal in the last few matches. Should be an interesting rest of season.

Overall Records
Mooseheads: 14-20-5-1 = 34 points (6th in Maritimes division, 17th overall)

Overtime Revenge

Your Halifax Mooseheads got revenge on division rival Charlottetown Islanders on Tuesday night. It was an interesting evening at the Scotiabank Centre. The Islanders had a goal reviewed during a stoppage after the referees didn't see the puck go in the net, Kevin Resop got an assist after gloving the puck and passing it to Joel Bishop, and Connor Moynihan played defense for a second time in the past week. Halifax jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Barrett Dachyshyn and Andrew Shewfelt but couldn't hold it as Charlottetown tied it before the end of the first period. The Islanders eventually took a 5-3 lead with about 13 minutes left in regulation. Defenseman Cooper Jones scored his first of his career to close the gap and once again rookie Otto Somppi was clutch again, potting one with 14 seconds left sending the match to overtime. In OT, there was some back and forth than Resop made a glove save, held it for just a second, passed it to Joel Bishop in middle ice and broke in to give the Mooseheads revenge on Charlottetown.
