Alum on Unprotected & Protected Lists

There will be a 32nd team in the National Hockey League when the 2021-22 season begins in September as the Seattle Kraken have joined as an expansion team. The Kraken need players and will draft their roster from 30 of the 31 current clubs on July 21, which you can watch at 8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.

NHL clubs are allowed to protect 8 skaters and 1 goaltender OR 7 forwards, 3 defencemen and one goalie against Seattle drafting them. For full rules of the expansion draft, which are the same to the ones the Vegas Golden Knights had to follow in 2017, click here. The Knights are exempt from the draft as they are the most recent team to join the NHL.

There are a handful of former Halifax Mooseheads that have been left unprotected.

Here's a list of who is available to Las Vegas via NHL:
Jonathan Drouin - Montreal Canadiens
Jakub Voracek - Philadelphia Flyers
Martin Frk - Los Angeles Kings
Otto Somppi - Tampa Bay Lightning
Zach Fucale - Washington Capitals

Meanwhile, Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado), Nico Hischier (New Jersey), MacKenzie Weegar (Florida), Nikolaj Ehlers (Winnipeg), Timo Meier (San Jose) and Brad Marchand (Boston) were all protected by their respective clubs.

Seattle will make their first entry draft selection on July 23 when they pick 2nd overall. The 2021 NHL Entry Draft will be held virtually once again this year with Round 1 being held Friday and Rounds 2-7 on Saturday.
