Guelph Storm vs. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
Attendance: 9,509

Alexey Toropchenko had a great game and helped lead his Guelph Storm to a 5-2 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the first battle of champions at the 2019 Memorial Cup. The 19-year-old had a hat trick in the Storm's opening game as the OHL champs came back once again. Rouyn-Noranda, the QMJHL title winners, got out to a quick start with Vincent Marleau scoring just over two minutes into the game. Toropchenko picked up his first of the match while the Huskies were on the powerplay to tie it at 1s. He had a natural hat trick before the first period came to an end. All the scoring was done in the first 40 minutes as the third was just about keeping the lead for Guelph.
