Division Crown Still Up For Grabs

Photo - Myles Dennis
Multi goal games by Raphael Lavoie and Connor Moynihan helped the Halifax Mooseheads defeat their biggest rivals on Friday night, picking up a big win against the Moncton Wildcats by a score of 7-4 in front of 8,000 plus rowdy fans. The victory, with the help of Charlottetown, has given the Herd still an opportunity to win the Maritimes division title this season. Halifax and Moncton, who are battling it out off the ice for the chance to win the right to host the Memorial Cup next May, were battling it out on the ice as well this evening. There were three fights and lots of post whistle conversations leading to 54 penalty minutes between the two clubs. The Wildcats got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but with 27 seconds left in the frame, Lavoie scored to get the home team on the board and Halifax seemed to get life from that in the middle 20 minutes. Raphy got his second of the game just 3 and a half minutes into the second period while Filip Zadina scored on the power play to give the Mooseheads a 5-2 lead half way through the game. A few penalties in the second part of the middle frame gave Moncton the opportunity to close the gap as they scored twice on the man advantage. Moynihan scored once between the two Cats' goals and scored a second time in the third period, providing the Moose with 6 players who have 20+ goals this season. Connor's first tally was is his first since the beginning of the month, I guess having his parents in the crowd motivated the overager to put on a show.
