RECAP: Penalties Hurt Halifax

HALIFAX - DND Appreciation night started out really well; a nice ceremony honouring the Canadian Forces, a moment of silence and two quick goals. The last 45 minutes not so much though; lots of penalties, Saint John taking command in the second and unanswered goals. The ceremony before the game was very well done and it ended with the Stadacona Band playing 'Oh Canada'. Nikolaj Ehlers got the good guys on the board early tipping in a powerplay shot. A Danny Moynihan elbowing penalty led to the away team closing the gap to 2-1 and they wouldn't look back. Physicality and hatred was again a theme in this series especially against former Dogs forward Kelly Bent. Some of that hatred led to Bent getting a game misconduct and a fighting major after he fought against Mitchell Dempsey while Sam Leblanc and Mark Tremaine also fought each other.

GAMEDAY #20: vs Saint John

GAMEDAY
HALIFAX MOOSEHEADS vs. SAINT JOHN SEA DOGS
November 7, 2014 at 7:00pm
TV: Eastlink | Radio: News 95.7 | Live: @MC_MooseCountry
Scotiabank Centre (10,595) ~ Halifax, NS

The Mooseheads will appreciate the members of the Canadian Forces tonight when they welcome nationally 3rd ranked Saint John to the Scotiabank Centre. It's the 11th annual DND Appreciation Night game in Halifax where the boys will wear special commemorative Canadian Submarine Force themed jerseys. The proceeds from the jersey raffle will be given to the QEII Foundation - Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Garden. Be sure to say thank you to the men and women you see in uniform for defending our country.

Halifax will have a hard time to keep their mini 2 game win streak alive against the Sea Dogs who have gotten a point in their last 6 games. After two seasons off of the BMO Top 10 rankings, Saint John is back on the list making it's way up the ladder. The Herd's slow start this season has kept them off the list but the team is looking a lot more confident and it showed this past weekend with the team winning both games. It should be a fun game with the special celebrations and the rivalry that the Moose and Dogs have experienced this season.

This is the fourth game of the season between these two teams. Saint John leads the series 3-0-0-0 which is quite different then last year where Halifax had a 7-1-0-0 record against them. Nikolaj Ehlers and Vince Watt scored a goal each for the Mooseheads in their last meeting back on October 11, a game which the Sea Dogs won 5-2.

Overall Records
Sea Dogs: 12-3-0-3 = 27 points (1st in Maritimes division, 2nd overall)
Mooseheads: 7-10-1-1 = 16 points (5th in Martimes division, 15th overall)

Leading Scorers
HFXTimo Meier 20pts (8G & 12A), Philippe Gadoury 15pts (8G & 7A), Nikolaj Ehlers 14pts (5G & 9A)
SNB: Adam Marsh 20pts (11G & 9A), Nathan Noel 18pts (9G & 9A), Thomas Chabot 16pts (4G & 12A)

Last Games
Saint John is coming off a 4-2 on the road in Bathurst on Wednesday night. Mark Tremaine led the Dogs with 2 assists while Sebastien Auger made 33 saves on 35 shots versus the Titan.

Halifax is coming off their first shutout win, beating Charlottetown 3-0 on the island on Sunday evening. Nikolaj Ehlers led the Mooseheads with a goal and 2 assists with Zach Fucale getting the shutout making 20 saves.

Mooseheads to be broadcast on Sportsnet

SN logo; via Sportsnet's twitter
Sportsnet released its Canadian Hockey League television schedule today. The TV channel will show more than 50 CHL games this season as part of a new 12 year partnership deal with the CHL. It will include Friday Night Hockey on SN as well as the CHL/NHL Top Prospect's Game, the Subway Super Series and the Memorial Cup.

As part of the regular season schedule, Sportsnet will be broadcasting two Halifax Mooseheads games. Hockey Day in Canada will be coming to Halifax this year and the Mooseheads game that day will be on national television.

The two games will be Friday February 13, 2015 versus the Shawinigan Cataractes and Saturday February 14, 2015 versus the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Because they will be on national TV, the two games will have a 8pm Atlantic time start now instead of the normal 7pm beginning.

QMJHL Names Scholastic POM

Every month, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announces a Scholastic Player of the Month which recognizes a player on each team with his performance on ice and in the classroom. The player is selected based on their school results, their implication, the school-hockey conciliation, their team spirit and their on-ice performances.

For your Halifax Mooseheads, Zachary Fucale was named the Scholastic Player of the Month for October 2014. Fucale went 3-6-0-0 in the month of October with a 3.11 goals against average and had a 0.897 save percentage.

RECAP: First Line Leads

CHARLOTTETOWN - The first line led your Halifax Mooseheads to a big win on Sunday evening against the Islanders on the road. Nikolaj Ehlers, Danny Moynihan and Timo Meier each scored a goal to propel the Moose to a 3-0 victory. It's the first time this season that Halifax has won back to back games. This also gives Halifax it's first shutout of the season after being on the other side of a shutout 5 times. Islanders goaltender Mason McDonald was once again pretty solid but he couldn't stop all 38 shots the Herd fired at Charlottetown's net. Zach Fucale on the other hand was not tested as much especially in the 1st period where he only faced 3 pucks.
