Team changes
The Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League were renamed the North Bay Battalion while the PEI Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League were renamed the Charlottetown Islanders.

Halifax will look to repeat as Memorial Cup champions probably without their 3 star players. London will be in the national championship tournament for a third straight year come May as they are hosting the 2014 Memorical Cup. The Calgary Hitmen will be hosts to the Top Prospects game. There has been talks that many teams, especially in the QMJHL, will start the season without their European players. This is from a strike that the Canadian Foreign Service is doing.

Attendance record broken

The Mooseheads have beaten their own attendance record this season. The past record, which was set in the 1999-2000 season, was an average 8,453 fans a night. With 7 sellouts and another two nights of over 10,000 fans, Halifax has averaged 8,686 hockey gurus a game this season. With the Metro Centre being host to the CHL/NHL top prospects game this year, the sellout on that night January 16 was not included in the average attendance.

Last season's average attendance was 6,608. A jump from the 2010-11 season and the first season in four years to not have declined.

Here is a look at the average attendance for the other 18 seasons that the Herd have played:
2011-12 ~ 6,608
2010-11 ~ 5,331
2009-10 ~ 5,506
2008-09 ~ 6,684
2007-08 ~ 7,556
2006-07 ~ 7,340
2005-06 ~ 7,720
2004-05 ~ 7,816
2003-04 ~ 7,601
2002-03 ~ 7,601
2001-02 ~ 7,421
2000-01 ~ 7,411
1999-00 ~ 8,453
1998-99 ~ 7,862
1997-98 ~ 6,428
1996-97 ~ 5,361
1995-96 ~ 4,749
1994-95 ~ 3,733

Lets see if we can get it even higher during the playoffs and help our team to victory and all the way to the Memorial Cup.

Happenings since last edition
*The highest save total by a goalie happened in the last month with Everett Silvertips goalie Austin Lotz made 65 saves in a losing cause, as the Silvertips lost in overtime to Kamloops.
*Out of the eight players that were invited to NHL camps; Huberdeau, Galchenyuk, Grigorenko, Hamilton and Yakupov were able to prove themselves to their respective teams. Huberdeau scored in his first pro game and has rattled up 9 points, while Galchenyuk scored his first on the 22nd and has 10 points so far, Grigorenko scored his first against the Maple Leafs to tie that game at the end of the month and has 3 points, and Yakupov scored his second goal against the Kings less then 2 seconds left with a celebration similar to that of Theo Fleury's OT playoff goal and has also recorded 9 points. Hamilton took the longest to score his first as he scored a day after valentines day and has assisted 5 others.
*The head coaches of Val-d'Or and Drummondville were both fined 3 games while the teams were fined $5000 each as a result of a brawl that happened in a game between the two teams twelve days ago.
*Saskatoon has the third longest winning streak this season winning twelve games in a row starting January 27. The Blades will look to make it 13 in a row tonight against Moose Jaw.
*Eleven of the 16 playoff spots are now taken in the QMJHL, while six are gone in the Ontario league and seven are sown up in the West.

Note: the Halifax Mooseheads have the lowest loss total (L, OTL, SOL) in the Q and in the CHL with only 9 total losses this season while also playing the lowest amount of games at 55. I think Saint John is missing Jonathan Huberdeau as they only have 21 wins so far after winning the 2 last President's Cups.

Happenings since last edition
*London Knights won 24 straight games overall which started with a win against Belleville on November 2nd and ended with an overtime loss to the Sarnia Sting January 1st.
*Halifax Mooseheads won 17 straight games at home starting on September 29 versus Cape Breton and ending with an overtime loss on January 4 to Saint John, this led to Halifax having the best home record in the CHL which today stands at 18-1-1-0.
*72 current CHL players were selected to play for their respective countries in the 2013 World Juniors in Ufa, Russia. Seven more CHL alumni were also chosen to represent their countries. With the United States winning the gold medal, 10 current CHL players were able to bring that experience back to their junior teams.
*The Home Hardware CHL/NHL top prospects game was played a week ago in Halifax, Nova Scotia in front of a sold out crowd which included many (at least 200) scouts and hockey personnel.
*The NHL season finally started on Saturday after a 114 day lockout. 8 CHL players were called up to represent the teams that drafted them in 2012 or 2011; this includes Mark Scheifele, Nail Yakupov, Jonathan Huberdeau, Alex Galchenyuk, Rickard Rickell, Mikhail Grigorenko, Dougie Hamilton, and Scott Laughton.

Note: the Saint John Sea Dogs and the Vancouver Giants are the only teams in the CHL to not have lost any games in overtime or a shootout. Also, despite being Memorial Cup champions last year, Shawinigan finds themselves at the bottom of the QMJHL.
