The regular season is nearing its completion with the final two games for all eighteen teams this weekend. The 16 playoff spots have been clinched but our Halifax Mooseheads don't know yet who their first round opponent will be.
Halifax could still technically move up to 6th place in the Eastern Conference, however the club needs to win both their games and have the Cape Breton Eagles lose theirs. So assuming the Mooseheads finish the season in the No. 7 seed, they will take on the second place team which could either be the Chicoutimi Sagueneens or Moncton Wildcats.
The Wildcats will play the Charlottetown Islanders in a home-and-home series, while the Sagueneens take on the Quebec Remparts.
Over in the Western Conference; Drummondville, Rouyn-Noranda and Blainville-Boisbriand are in the mix to win the #1 spot. Meanwhile, at the other end positions 6-8 are locked up. The Shawinigan Cataractes and Sherbrooke Phoenix are the lone playoff series officially determined, however the team with home advantage is still up in the air as the two teams are separated by one point and are the 4th and 5th seeds respectively.
A few other notes...
Every team in the league will be on the ice on both Friday and Saturday. Once again, Saturday matches will be afternoon starts.
Our Mooseheads, who have won four straight for the first time this season, are set to visit the Newfoundland Regiment this weekend for two road games.
At the bottom of the standings are the Baie-Comeau Drakkar (34 points) and Rimouski Oceanic (37 points) who will play each other twice to end the regular season. Both will miss the playoffs.
For the draft, scheduled to take place in Halifax, the Mooseheads will have a chance to win the lottery despite being 12th in the league right now. This is because Cam Russell and co. hold Rimouski's first round pick.
Halifax Mooseheads training camp starts this Saturday when players report to Dartmouth for registration day which normally includes physicals as well.
The team released its first week schedule at the end of July and it will see the attendees participate in some practices, 4 white-green intrasquad games and three of club's 4 pre-season matches. Camp will take place on Rink B of the RBC Centre with the intrasquad games being free to attend for fans.

Tickets are on-sale now for the home games at ticketmaster.ca and on the RECC website. I'll share the roster later in the week and any more info as it comes out.
In a turn of events, the league champion Moncton Wildcats will not open at home but instead are set to travel to St. John's for the first game of the regular season to battle the Newfoundland Regiment on September 18.
Our Halifax Mooseheads are set to kick off the regular season on the island and take on the Charlottetown Islanders on September 19. The two clubs will battle each other the next night in Moose Country for the Herd's home opener. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Some other observations on the Mooseheads' schedule:
The Newfoundland Regiment will make their first visit to the Scotiabank Centre for two games October 17 and 18.
Halifax's first road trip to the province of Quebec between October 29-November 1 when they visit Blainville, Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or.
Once again, a home-and-home series between the two Nova Scotian teams will happen to end 2025 with a match in Halifax on December 30 and in Sydney on December 31.
The longest home-stand of the season is 6 games between October 9-25 while the Herd will have three road trips of 5 games each, including one to end the season from March 8-21.
A Family Day matinee will see Halifax visiting the Moncton Wildcats at 2 p.m. on February 16
Despite having a not so good season, a couple of Halifax Mooseheads players were honoured for their efforts during the regular season. Goaltender Jacob Steinman, probably mostly because of his stats while he was with the Moncton Wildcats before being traded to Halifax at Christmas time, was named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team earlier this month. In 52 games played in 2024-25, Steinman had a 29-16-4-1 record, a 2.44 goals against average with a 0.923 save percentage and 3 shutouts. At the same time, defenceman Carlos Handel was one of six players to be on the All-Rookie Team after picking up 3 goals and 26 points in 52 games, all with the Mooseheads.
Congrats to both guys being given the recognition!
MOOSE TRACKS I haven't shared all the Moose Tracks videos but thought I would post this one as it seems like it will be the last one for the season. For episode 7, we get behind the scenes looks at play by play announcer Garreth MacDonald and go into the dressing room.
PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE Our Mooseheads announced their pre-season schedule a couple of weeks ago and the team will play four exhibition matches, all against provincial rivals Cape Breton. I noticed the schedule being up a couple days before the team made it official, but it looked odd so wasn't sure it was the full schedule. Nice to see the team will be sharing the love around Nova Scotia this year. This is the least amount of games I have seen Halifax play.
August 19 at Cape Breton 7:00 p.m. Centre 200 August 20 vs Cape Breton 7:00 p.m. St. Margaret's Centre August 23 vs Cape Breton 4:00 p.m. Rath Eastlink Community Centre September 6 at Cape Breton 4:00 p.m. Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre
GOLDEN PUCK AWARDS The QMJHL announced the nominees for the first seven Golden Puck Awards a few weeks ago and former Herd Markus Vidicek was among the three names vying for the Guy Carbonneau Trophy as top defensive forward. Unfortunately, the next day the winner was announced as Matyas Melovsky of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
On May 21, the league released the names for the final eight awards. First, net-minder Jacob Steinman has been nominated for the Patrick Roy Trophy as goaltender of the year. The 20-year-old had a 0.917 save percentage in 22 games with Halifax according to the article. Mooseheads alumni Mathieu Cataford is one of the final three players who will look to win the Marcel Robert Trophy which is given to the student athlete of the year. The winners will be announced on June 5.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS It was a mixed bag of results for former Halifax Mooseheads players at the World Championships. After Winnipeg was eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, forward Nikolaj Ehlers joined host Denmark, making it six alumni participating in the tournament. The 29-year-old Ehlers helped his country to a 4th place finish, their best ever result, by scoring 3 goals in 4 games. They would battle against Nathan MacKinnon, MacKenzie Weegar and Canada in the quarter-finals, winning 2-1. MacKinnon recorded 13 points in 8 games but couldn't help the Canadians finish higher than 5th place. Filip Zadina and Czechia lost 5-2 to Sweden in the quarters. Nico Hischier was once again named captain of Switzerland but unfortunately got injured just a week into the competition, ending his tournament. Timo Meier finished 17th in scoring with 3 goals and 10 points as the Swiss lost a very tight final game, 1-0 in overtime to the United States.
Congratulations to Timo Meier, Nico Hischier and Switzerland on becoming silver medalists on May 25.

From Scott Wheeler; d-man Carlos Handel has been invited to this year's NHL draft combine which begins on Monday
We had to wait until the last day to find out who the opponent would be but our Halifax Mooseheads will play the Western conference champ Drummondville Voltigeurs in the 2025 playoffs. The series will start on Friday in Drummondville.
This is one of those years where an eastern conference team crosses over to the western conference because of having more points at the end of the season than the 8th (and last) place West team. The Mooseheads clinched their berth in the post-season on March 16 with a victory over Cape Breton. However, two losses in the final weekend along with the Gatineau Olympiques picking up a victory on Saturday evening against the Volts pushed the Mooseheads down to the final playoff spot.
Halifax went 0-2-0-0 against Drummondville during the regular season but as we know, playoffs are a different game and things you don't expect can happen. This is only the second playoff series between these two clubs after they met in the 2019 semi-final round.
To accommodate the distance between the two cities, this will be a 2-3-2 series instead of the normal 2-2-1-1-1. Find the full schedule below (puck drops are Atlantic time)

Single game tickets for games 3 and 4 in Moose Country will go on sale to the general public on March 25. You can purchase them online at ticketmaster.ca or at the Scotiabank Centre box office.
The Halifax Mooseheads released their promotional schedule recently and it looks a bit different from years past, but below you will find the annual charity events that happen. It seems that once again the Hurley Cup will not be played but I hope that they change their minds because it is one of my favourite events.
Annual events HOME OPENER - October 4 vs. Quebec Remparts DND Appreciation Night - November 9 vs. Baie-Comeau Drakkar Toque Toss - December 14 vs. Charlottetown Islanders Mooseheads Fight Cancer - February 8 vs. Acadie-Bathurst Titan Fan Appreciation Night - March 22 vs. Charlottetown Islanders

The Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League announced the 2024-25 regular season schedule a few months ago, including all 64 Halifax Mooseheads games.
Yes, I did say 64 games. The league made the decision in the spring to change the amount of matches in a season from 68 to sixty-four lessoning the strain on the players. Halifax will open up the season with a five-game road trip through the Maritimes starting in Charlottetown on September 20. Puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at Eastlink Centre.
Some highlights from the schedule:
The Mooseheads hit the Scotiabank Centre ice for the first time in the new season on October 4 when they welcome the Quebec Remparts. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
Halifax will have their first Quebec road trip October 25-27 when they visit Shawinigan, Victoriaville and Sherbrooke.
A home-and-home series between the two Nova Scotian teams is back for this season with the clubs meeting on December 30 in Cape Breton before having a New Year's Eve afternoon game in Moose Country. It's yet to be seen if the Hurley Cup will make a return.
There will be a number of Sunday afternoon home games, a total of nine which is more than I have seen in a long time.
Halifax's final match of the season sees them host the Charlottetown Islanders in a Saturday matinee on March 22.
The road to the 2024 Gilles Courteau Trophy begins on Friday as our Halifax Mooseheads take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Round 1.

The regular season schedule was announced at the beginning of the summer and the Halifax Mooseheads haven't officially announced their events as of the writing of this post. However, they were listed on the form that people who bought 15-game packages received. So I'm going to do this post a little different this year and give you the full promotional schedule below.
2023-24 promotional schedule Home Opener - September 22 vs. Charlottetown Fridge Magnet Giveaway - October 7 vs. Blainville-Boisbriand 30th Ann. T-shirt Giveaway - October 21 vs. Val-d'Or Mooseheads Fight Cancer - November 4 vs. Sherbrooke 90's Night - November 11 vs. Shawinigan Kid's Day - November 12 vs. Cape Breton Toque Toss - December 8 vs. Gatineau New Year's Eve - December 31 vs. Cape Breton Towel Giveaway - January 13 vs. Quebec DND Appreciation - January 20 vs. Chicoutimi Alumni Night - March 2 vs. Saint John Fan Appreciation Night - March 10 vs. Moncton
As you can see, there seems to be no teddy bear toss this season and we'll have to wait and see if the New Year's Eve match will be the normal Hurley Cup/Battle of Nova Scotia special event game. I'm not sure why the team never have the DND appreciation game on Remembrance Day if they play that day.
Our Halifax Mooseheads 30th season regular season schedule was announced today.
Like last year, the Herd will open up the season on home ice when the Charlottetown Islanders come to town on September 22. The two teams will meet at Eastlink Centre the next night with the puck scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. both evenings. Hopefully we won't get another postponement of the opening weekend in the Maritimes like in 2022.
Other highlights for the 2023-24 regular season includes:
The first Quebec road-trip will be October 12-15 when the Mooseheads travel to Baie-Comeau, Chicoutimi and Rimouski
A league finals rematch between Quebec and Halifax is set for January 13, 2024 at the Scotiabank Centre, meaning we'll probably see even more of a different team for the Remparts than we did in Game 6
We will get to see the return of the Hurley Cup series against Cape Breton, with the Eagles hosting on December 30 at 3 p.m. The two teams will meet again in Moose Country on New Year's Eve for an afternoon game
Halifax's longest home-stand will be six games from February 28-March 14 (this game being the home finale as well) while a five game road trip between Nov. 24-Dec. 2 is the longest
The regular season will wrap up on March 23 with the Herd visiting Saint John in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday against the Sea Dogs.
Halifax also announced in the press release that a full promotional schedule will be released later in the summer.
One step into preparing to celebrate the Halifax Mooseheads 30th anniversary season has happened as the team have released their pre-season schedule on Friday.
Halifax is anticipated to play six games over the pre-season schedule this summer. The QMJHL exhibition play will begin on August 17 and go until September 16 with a two-week break in between. Our Mooseheads are once again taking on the Charlottetown Islanders and Cape Breton Eagles.
Here is the 2023-24 pre-season schedule:
August 22 at 7pm - vs. Cape Breton Eagles (RBC Centre) August 23 at 7pm - at Cape Breton Eagles (Centre 200) August 25 at 7pm - vs. Charlottetown Islanders (RBC Centre) September 9 at 7pm - at Charlottetown Islanders (MacLauchlan Arena) September 10 at 4pm - vs. Cape Breton Eagles (RBC Centre) September 15 at 7pm - at Cape Breton Eagles (Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre)
The Halifax Mooseheads find themselves in the league finals once again and this year they will take on the Quebec Remparts.
Halifax previously made it to the fourth round in 2003, 2005, 2013 and 2019 winning the championship once in 2013. The two teams ended the regular season with the best records in the league so it really isn't a surprise that they will determine the playoff champion. As Quebec finished with 109 points and the Mooseheads had 107 in the regular season, the Remparts will get home ice advantage in this series. The Remparts have had a pretty easy path to the upcoming series, winning the three previous rounds in sweeps while Halifax has gone 12-3 to get to this point in the post-season. Who will win the 2023 Gilles Courteau Trophy in about two weeks time?
Find the schedule for the Mooseheads-Remparts series below:
Game 1 Friday May 12 @ 8:00pm at Centre Videotron Game 2 Saturday May 13 @ 8:00pm at Centre Videotron Game 3 Tuesday May 16 @ 8:00pm at Scotiabank Centre Game 4 Wednesday May 17 @ 8:00pm at Scotiabank Centre *Game 5 Friday May 19 @ 8:00pm at Centre Videotron *Game 6 Sunday May 21 @ TBD at Scotiabank Centre *Game 7 Monday May 22 @ TBD at Centre Videotron

You can watch the first two games of the series on Eastlink Community TV while TSN will broadcast the remaining matches hence the later times for our home games next week.
Individual tickets for Games 3 and 4 in Moose Country will go on sale on Wednesday morning.
The road to the newly named Gilles Courteau Trophy begins on Friday around the league.
After another interesting season that ended on a high note for our Halifax Mooseheads picking up their 50th win of the season, the Herd finished second in the league. The QMJHL announced yesterday the full schedule for round 1 of the 2023 playoffs. It will be a Battle of Nova Scotia series as our Mooseheads will take on the seventh place Cape Breton Eagles. The league has gone back to a best-of-seven series for all four rounds with this one being the normal 2-2-1-1-1 format.
Find the schedule of the Eagles-Mooseheads series below:

For the first time since 2013, our Halifax Mooseheads will open the season on Scotiabank Centre ice when they welcome the Charlottetown Islanders on September 23. The two teams will battle each other again the next night in Charlottetown. Both matches have 7 p.m. start times.
Some highlights from the schedule:
The first Quebec road trip will be at the end of the following month, with the Mooseheads visiting Blainville-Boisbriand, Val-d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda from October 26-29.
With the World Juniors being held in Halifax, the team will not be able to play at home meaning that the normal before New Year's Battle of Nova Scotia series won't happen but the team could decide to move it to another date.
The longest home streak is 5 games between January 8-19 while the longest road trip also happens to be 5 games from November 25 to December 3.
Halifax will once again have a Family Day matinee on home ice welcoming division rivals the Moncton Wildcats at 2 p.m.
The Herd will finish the regular season with a three game home-stand and wrap it up on March 25 against the Islanders. Puck is scheduled to drop at 4 p.m.
Events will be announced at a later date, let's hope that we can have the full slate of normal themed games this season.
STANLEY CUP FINALS The NHL Stanley Cup final series will begin on Wednesday and it will include a former Halifax Mooseheads player. Nova Scotia native Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche will be looking for the franchise's third Stanley Cup after sweeping the Edmonton Oilers last week in the conference finals. This will be first trip to the Stanley Cup final for MacKinnon in his career. The Herd alum scored a pivotal goal and registered seven shots on goal in the series clinching game which ended with a 6-5 score in overtime. Nathan has contributed 11 goals and 7 assists for 18 points in Colorado's 14 postseason games that has seen the team post an incredible 12-2 record in series wins over Nashville, St. Louis and Edmonton. The Avalanche had to wait a few days to find out who their opponent would be but now know and will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning for the trophy. Tampa is looking for their third straight championship.

Q AWARDS Mooseheads forward Jordan Dumais was named the QMJHL's most sportsmanlike player of 2022 a couple weeks ago. To be considered for the Frank J. Selke trophy, a player must prove his efficiency on the ice, demonstrate the utmost respect for opponents and officials as well as avoid the penalty box. One of the top used forwards on the Mooseheads, the Ile-Bizard, QC native spent no more than six minutes in the penalty box all season. Check out Dumais being presented the award here. Awesome job Jordan!
The league has been handing out the Golden Puck awards and recently announced the all-star rookie team for the 2021-22 season with Herd forward Mathieu Cataford cracking the list. Cataford led all 16-year-olds players in points with 46 after Halifax selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 Q entry draft. Congrats to Mathieu on being given the honour.
PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE
Our Halifax Mooseheads released their pre-season schedule for the upcoming season. The Herd will play a total of six games starting on August 23 with a trip to Sydney against the Cape Breton Eagles. Halifax's three home pre-season matches will be played at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth. Tickets will go on sale later in the summer.

The regular season schedule was also announced on Tuesday but I will do a separate post for that.
MEMORIAL CUP Three of the four teams that will participate in the Memorial Cup are known now after the Edmonton Oil Kings won the WHL championship last night over the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Oil Kings won their series 4-2 after a 2-0 Game 6 victory in Alberta. Edmonton will join the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Saint John Sea Dogs in Saint John for the 2022 tournament. Shawinigan won the QMJHL title on June 11 with a 4-3 overtime win in Game 5. The OHL trophy will be handed out tomorrow evening as Game 7 is set to go in Hamilton between the hometown Bulldogs and the Windsor Spitfires.
Congrats to Shawinigan and Edmonton on winning their respective leagues and to whoever wins the OHL.

#E4 Acadie-Bathurst Titan vs #E5 Halifax Mooseheads
1st round
The Halifax Mooseheads released their first round schedule for the 2022 playoffs which they are playing against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
HALIFAX - It's playoff time Moose Country! A bad month in March by our Halifax Mooseheads and good play from the other teams led to a spread in what was a close Maritimes division until that point. It gave way to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan jumping over Halifax to get home ice advantage in this series between the two clubs. The first three rounds of this year's playoffs will be best-of-five so there isn't really time for a slow start but the Mooseheads are coming into the post-season hot and they'll look to keep it going when the series starts on Thursday in Bathurst.
HEAD-TO-HEAD ~ all-time playoffs: 5-5-2-0, this season: 4-5-0-0
LAST GAMES - Halifax is coming off a 5-4 victory over the last place Eagles on May 1 in Cape Breton while Acadie-Bathurst were defeated by the Charlottetown Islanders 10-2 on that final day.
Playoff tickets for game 3 will go on sale at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office, www.ticketatlantic.com or by calling (902) 451-1121.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to change the makeup of the regular season, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced that it has changed the format of the 2022 playoffs.
As anticipated with the shorter playoff time, the first three rounds of the President Cup playoffs will be played in a best-of-five series while the Championship series will be the normal best-of-seven format.
The changes are due to the fact that the league wants to play a full regular season which is scheduled to end on May 1 and the Memorial Cup needing to be completed before the end of June.
The round of 16 will oppose the eight teams from each conference, based on their position in the final regular season standings (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5). This round will be played from May 5 to 12.
In the second round, the four winning teams of each conference will compete against each other to clinch a berth in the semifinals. Once again, their seeding will be determined by their position in the final standings. The second round will be held from May 15 to 22.
The semifinals will feature the four remaining winning teams. They will be reseeded according to their position in the overall standings, but this time they will not automatically play within their conference. The two best-of-five series will occur between May 25 and June 1.
Finally, the President Cup Final series will be played from June 4 to 15. It will feature both winners from the semifinals.
Our Halifax Mooseheads are currently 5th in the Eastern conference with 52 points. The second half has been rough for the Herd but they have been in most games.
If the season ended today, Halifax would play the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the opening round.
The Halifax Mooseheads have announced their promotional schedule for the 2021-22 regular season and there are a change to one of the yearly charity events. Pink in the Rink will not be played in October like normal, instead it is being replaced by a Mooseheads Fights Cancer night. The full list of promotional nights can be found in the schedule tab above but below you will find the yearly charity events.
