Friday's Home Opener Postponed

Who would've thought a hurricane would postpone the beginning of the Halifax Mooseheads season?

Hurricane Fiona is coming towards the Atlantic provinces and is expected to make landfall Friday night / Saturday morning which has forced the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to postpone games in the Maritime division this weekend. This includes our Mooseheads home opener on Friday night against the Charlottetown Islanders.

The following list are the other matches that have been postponed:
Sept 23 - Moncton vs. Cape Breton
Sept 23 - Charlottetown vs. Halifax
Sept 24 - Halifax vs. Charlottetown
Sept 24 - Acadie-Bathurst vs. Saint John
Sept 25 - Cape Breton vs. Moncton

A new date has yet to be determined but Halifax did say that tickets purchased for the home opener will be honoured at the reschedule game.

Herd/Dogs Game Rescheduled

Photo - The Chronicle Herald
Our Halifax Mooseheads will have to play four games next week after the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced on Monday that they have rescheduled the postponed February 7 match against the Saint John Sea Dogs to next Wednesday.

The start time for the game was originally pushed back an hour to 8pm before the match was postponed entirely because Halifax could not make it past Moncton due to the weather. Saint John president Trevor Georgie had told media that he would be filing a complaint with the league as the club felt that the Mooseheads purposely missed the game on Feb 7.

Georgie stated he contacted league officials and Cam Russell to make arrangements for Halifax to travel on Thursday but the Herd decided not do that. The game would have been an almost sold out crowd and was to feature a performance by Nova Scotia musician Classified during the first intermission. Georgie was asking for the league to hand his team an automatic two points and have Russell give the Sea Dogs money for expenses that incurred. Halifax was supposed to have played 3 games in 3 days that weekend and the Saint John brass felt that they wanted to get out of that scenario which Mooseheads' general manager Cam Russell denied.

The rescheduled game is on February 26 at TD Station in Saint John with puck drop being 7:00pm.

Tickets that fans had purchased for the Feb. 7 game can be exchanged for any of the Sea Dogs remaining home games.

Tonight's Game Cancelled

The Halifax Mooseheads and the QMJHL collectively announced mid-afternoon that tonight's game against the Moncton Wildcats has been cancelled because of the storm hitting most of Nova Scotia today. Despite the Wildcats arriving last night, the league decided to not have the game as a safety for the Moose players and fans. For those who have purchased tickets to tonight's match, they can use them for the rescheduled game or go to the box office and get a refund. There is no date announced yet for a new game between the two teams.

Halifax and Moncton play each other on Friday night in New Brunswick for the last road game of the season. The Mooseheads will have their home finale on Saturday night.

Postponed Game Rescheduled

The Halifax Mooseheads and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan announced this morning that there game in Halifax that was to be played at the Scotiabank Centre this evening was postponed to a later date. The reason for the cancellation was the snow storm that is happening in New Brunswick today. Bathurst is expecting 40 to 60 centimetres of snow today. The Titan hadn't left the province yet possibly expecting that this would happen and not wanting to get stuck.

The teams have since announced the rescheduled date. The two teams will play a week from today on December 17th in Moose Country. Puck drop will be 7pm. Fans who bought tickets for tonight's game can use them as entrance to the rescheduled game. For season ticket holders, use the December 10th tickets for the rescheduled game.

Halifax next game now is tomorrow night against the Quebec Remparts. I will have a preview of that game tomorrow up on my blog. The Moose and Titan meet on Saturday night in Bathurst and than in Charlottetown next Thursday.

Game 4 Postponed

Game 4 between your Halifax Mooseheads and the Charlottetown Islanders has been postponed from tonight to tomorrow night. The league had discussions with both teams early this afternoon and decided to postpone the game as a safety caution for everyone involved. Though the storm reached PEI later than it did in Nova Scotia, it would get bad really fast and fans would not be able to get to the game.

Look for a game preview tomorrow afternoon of Game 4 when the Islanders will try to get back in the series. Puck drops at 7pm on Thursday night.

Tonight's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles/Gatineau Olympiques game is postponed as well. That game was supposed to be played in Sydney at 7pm.

BREAKING Friday's Game Postponed.

The first snow storm of the year has postponed the first Halifax Mooseheads game of the year. Tonight's tilt against the Charlottetown Islanders has been cancelled due to the snow storm affecting most of Atlantic Canada. Puck drop was supposed to be at 7:00pm tonight January 3rd. The Islanders did not travel to Halifax so that will save them some time which is good. A make up date will be announced no later than Monday along with ticket information so keep your tickets!

Halifax will hopefully be back at it tomorrow night against the Saint John Sea Dogs. The next home game will be next Friday against Moncton for the Teddy Bear Toss

Snow postpones tonight's game

Tonight's game against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan was cancelled this morning due to the snow storm hitting the Maritimes. 40+ centimetres of snow are expected to have fallen by the end of the weekend. Both the Mooseheads and Halifax Metro Centre Twitter and Facebook accounts announced the cancellation of the game. Puck drop was supposed to be 7pm Atlantic time. The Mooseheads announced that the game is postponed until Monday March 11 at 7pm/at. The team also announced that anybody who had tickets to tonight's game can use them for the rescheduled game or in the case of individual tickets, you can get refunds if you are unable to go. Considering I have tickets for tonight's game I will most likely go to the rescheduled game.

Hopefully there isn't another storm next weekend as the Moose play again at home a week from today. I will be hitting that game with my father and sister watching from a box seat. :) look for my game posts for the tilt against Moncton.

Go Moose Go!!!

Have a good day if you are snowed in. I will now be watching Hockey Day in Canada so go over to my other blog at hockeyfansunitetonight.blogspot.ca for my thoughts on the Canadian teams as they play.
