The Halifax Mooseheads announced their leadership group for the 2025-26 QMJHL season on Saturday and 19-year-old forward Owen Phillips was presented with the C on his jersey.

Phillips, a native of Halifax, NS, was originally drafted in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft seventh overall by the Mooseheads and is entering his fourth season with his hometown club. In his first 189 games played, he has scored 11 goals and picked up 51 points with an additional 9 points in 36 playoff games.

Head coach Brad MacKenzie presented the leadership group, which also includes Liam Kilfoil (18), Mathieu Taillefer (19) and Quinn Kennedy (19) as alternates, with their updated sweaters during a team meeting. You can see the announcement below in a new episode of Moose Tracks Uncharted.

A big congratulations to Owen and the three other guys on being given a letter for this year.

Defenceman Schultz Named Captain

Our Halifax Mooseheads have named their leadership group for the 2024-25 QMJHL season and veteran defenceman Brady Schultz was given the C on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old was originally a 14th round pick by the club in the 2020 Entry Draft and is entering his fourth season on the blueline. He is the 36th captain in team history and first American born player to earn the honour according to the press release.

Schultz was presented a new jersey with the letter on it during a team meeting. Joining the Monroe, CT native as full-time alternates will be forward Braeden MacPhee (20) and defenceman Owen Phillips (18). While 19-year-old Jack Martin and 17-year-old Liam Kilfoil are going to split leadership duties at home and away games.

Congratulations to all five players, especially Brady on being named Captain.

New Leadership Group

Our Halifax Mooseheads have announced their leadership group for the 2023-24 season on Friday afternoon.

Defenseman Jake Furlong was named the 35th captain in team history after returning to the Mooseheads by the San Jose Sharks earlier in the week. According to the press release, Furlong was presented his new position before practice by head coach Jim Midgley with his parents present. The 19-year-old is heading into his fourth season with Halifax after the Herd drafted him in the second round of the 2020 QMJHL entry draft.

"Jake exemplifies the values of the Halifax Mooseheads. His work ethic, consistency and commitment make him a great ambassador for our organization," said Jim Midgley.

From the release; Furlong has displayed all of those qualities throughout his Mooseheads career but perhaps no greater than during the 2023 playoff run which saw him log major minutes every game while putting his body on the line and shutting down the top forwards from each opponent on a consistent basis.

Joining the Upper Tantallon, NS native as leaders for this year are veterans forwards Markus Vidicek and Jordan Dumais along with Brady Schultz and Mathieu Cataford. The first two players will serve as alternate captains for every game while the latter two will rotate wearing a letter during home and away games.

Congratulations to all five players, especially Furlong on being given the C.

2021-22 Leadership Group Announced

On Thursday afternoon, head coach Sylvain Favreau made the team's leadership group announcement during a group meeting and the club released the video to the public yesterday.

To probably no one's surprise, forward Elliot Desnoyers was named captain of the 2021-22 Halifax Mooseheads. The 19-year-old missed some time at the beginning of the season but has been good for the Herd since coming back from Philadelphia Flyers training camp. I am surprised that they didn't name the leadership group last weekend when he did return. Forwards Stephen Davis, Zachary L'Heureux and Zac Beauregard were given the A's for this year's squad.

Congrats to Elliot and the rest of the guys who now have letters on their jerseys.

Herd Name Captains

Photo - Herd website
Head coach J.J. Daigneault has made the announcement of the Halifax Mooseheads leadership group for the 2020-21 season.

Veteran defenceman Justin Barron was named the Captain today. The 18-year-old was drafted by the Mooseheads in 2017 13th overall and has played 153 games for the club. He is currently on the injured list after receiving shoulder surgery a couple weeks ago. Barron is a top prospect eligible for the 2020 NHL draft which still hasn't been done because of the coronavirus and will be held on October 6-7.

Barron will be joined by forwards Liam Peyton, Elliot Desnoyers and follow defenceman Jason Horvath who were all given an A on their jerseys.

Congratulations to the four players, especially Justin.

The announcement was made during a team meeting after this morning's practice with Barron and the international players on video call. You can view the video here
